Take down airguns ?

I just bought an Air Arms S410 TDR to sit in the safe with my existing S410 Classic.

I love the original, and the new one is just very very portable with a 3-`2 scope on it, in the case, ready to go.

Bought both of them from Airgun Source. Very well built and solid, beautiful finish, and quiet quiet quiet!

Have looked at the crossman 2289 at cabelas.com , but can't find it in Canada ?
next option might be a 2240 with longer barrel and removable buttstock

Just bought a QB57D from Scopes and Ammo. Could not be happier with it. Fit and finish were great. Scope sucked (expected that). Replaced with an old Tasco in .22 with a sliding mount. Re-cut the foam in the case and away we go. The Man from Uncle would have carried this. Seriously, for $100.00, its a great little gun. And the service at Scopes and Ammo was top notch.

The Webley Osprey / Tracker...has a removable barrel.....it unscrews from the main tube, via the rear sight screws. Just unscrew them and off it comes.....I usually trim the barrels down in length and dia as I find them a little long and heavy for my likes. There is NO choke on those units so a trim usually doesn't affect accuracy....KEN.

Best double check that bit of info - the Webley Osprey / Tracker does not have a removeable barrel.
The barrel is firmly fixed to the breechblock, through which the loading tap passes.

I believe that you may have the Webley Osprey / Tracker confused with the early Webley Hawk Mark I, which did have a threaded on (removeable/interchangeable) barrel.

Nope I'm right...want some pics?...KEN.
Yes, please.
I would be most interested in seeing pics of a removable barrel on an Osprey/Tracker.

Keep in mind that the OP's query was not for info on guns with barrels that are "service removable" - but rather, guns that can be taken down for transport, and then then quickly re-assembled when desired. The Webley Mark II Service rifle, and the Webley Hawk Mark I both fall into the "take-down" rifle category, the Osprey and Tracker do not.

Thanks for the pics, Ken.

Having never had the need to remove an Osprey or Tracker barrel, I was not aware that the breech of the barrel simply butted up against the loading tap section. Most tap loaders that I have worked on have had the tap plug passing right through the barrel, making barrel removal (for service) difficult at best. Your pics would seem to indicate that if the rifle were scoped, the rear sight were not in place, and not having to worry about front sight alignment, it is quite possible that the gun could be used as a take-down rifle, very easily.

Not being entirely familiar with the fastening system, and the tap to breech arrangement, my point above was that virtually all airguns have "service removable" barrels, but few are as simple as what you have shown me on the Osprey and Tracker, thus I can now fully understand your point, and I would have to concede that the gun could indeed be considered a take-down.

Just goes to show that no matter how long one has been at the hobby, or how many guns one has worked on, one can always learn something new.
