I'm looking for such a gun, are there any take-down WMR's out there?

Otherwise, what would be the lightest / smallest WMR for hiking and backpacking?

Not interested in a LR or HMR.....just an WMR, one just may need the extra killing power

How about a Ruger 96/22M. It is a short throw lever action styled similar to the old Savage 99's. It weighs about 5.5 pounds and is about 36" in over all length. It is mag fed and the mag holds 9 rounds. I have been thinking about one to carry in a scabbard on horseback.

Give Dino a call at Majestic Arms and see how he's making out with his multi caliber take down rimfire's.....It's been coming soon for quite a while but if it ever comes it will be exactly what you need!

A Ruger 10/22 mag would work to, lot's of folding stocks or you could find a butler creek takedown stock for it....

The Brazillian made Rossi pump action was made in .22WMR. True takedown, no loose parts, unlike the 9422M.

Good point about the 9422M. It does 'take down' easily, but I think that intention was more for cleaning, not so much for putting two halves in your backpack. The breach block isn't secured at all, and falls apart easily.

Thaks for the info fellas. I'll have a closer look at the mentioned rifles.
Sounds like some good rifles have come and gone, and it'd be tough trying to find one now.......

Too bad the Marlin Papoose didn't come in WMR.....they'd prolly sell a ton of them.
