Takedown help....(Ithaca 37)

I had a blast (literally) slam-firing an old Ithaca 37 , but also was a little surprised to find it plugged to 2-shots........anyone have online/PDF disassembly instructions?.....

If its like mine, tighten mag cap, rotate barrel 90 degrees, remove barrel, unscrew mag cap, remove spring/plug

Okay, I managed to take it down, but I do not know what to do next. There is a wooden dowel that seems to be attached to the mag follower by means of a stud; can I just pull out the stud to get rid of the dowel, or will that mess up the magazine spring and feed?

The spring should fit over the plug, so by removing it, it should not screw anything up.
