I'm thinking about refinishing the stocks on my bl-22. It appears to me that in order to get the forestock off, the mag has to come out. I had the rifle apart earlier for cleaning and took the setscrew out that holds the magazine, but it wouldn't come out. It just spun a little in place. It almost looked like it wasn't meant to come out like that.

Also, it looks like the muzzle clamp has to come off and that means the front sight has to come off. This is really looking like a labour intensive job just to get at the wood.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

GOTO http://stevespages.com/page7a.htm goto RIFLES then BROWNING . From the schematic it looks like you just have to remove the barrel band pin that goes through the fore stock then pull the band foreword , then pull the fore stock foreword and off. But that is from looking at a schematic drawing , you may have to do more than that. But at least you have a drawing of how it goes. You could also do a search of Browning firearms or rifles and see if they have a manual that might help.

Thanks, BEARMAN, thats a much better pic than the one I have here.
It looks like I was on the right track trying to remove the magazine tube after removing the retaining screw.
The Magazine tube actually goes through a hole in the front of the forestock. If the mag slides out the front like the picture shows it might. the muzzle clamp won't have to come off.
