Hi guys,
Can you guys help me out here. Do I need to have hunting licence at the time I submit 6NIA application or just at the time of entry?

Thanks Jozsef

You need to fill out a certain ATF form to bring over the rifle and wait 6 to 12 weeks I'm told I was asking about bringing my Lee-Enfield across plus handgun and they said I could bring the handgun into a rifle but if I wanted my AR class rifle it won't be able to, because it's a war rifle, sadly

Do it electronically. Download the form as a PDF and fill it out. Email to imports@atf.gov . You do not need a license to submit. If it's your first time, go heavy on your ammo. If you say 20 rounds and they catch you with 40 you get some splainin to do. If you put 100 but only bring 40, nobody cares. I also tend to list more guns than I would bring just in case I change my mind or a last minute guy doesn't have time to submit, he can use one of mine.

I bring my AR over for matches regularly and even hunting occasionally. I have 2 different AR’s on my current approved form 6.

I can’t bring an AR to New York State due to the NYSafe act. It’s also not compliant in NJ or Massachusetts (and a few more) so you may have been given State specific info depending on where you were going. However ATF will approve your AR as long as the barrel is 16” or longer and overall length is more than 26”. It’s really important to know the laws of the State you will be travelling to with respect to firearms as they differ state to state and even county to county sometimes.

My current form 6 took eight business days, others have taken 3-4 weeks so approval times will vary as well.

My 1st 6NIA that I submitted came back in a month. I bought more guns and redid it. It came back in 24 days. It has NR rifles, handguns and AR's and variants. I also have an email from ND fish and game and the forestry service that AR's are welcome to hunt with where I'm going. It also has 7000 rounds of various caliber handloads on it.

Wendell put me on to this hunting trip with the thread he posted above. Before that, I thought it would be impossible. I also have my NH CCW permit, just for kicks.....

I gather some guns we hold as non restricted can't be taken to the US, like the 14 ' barreled shotgun I was planning on taking to Alaska. Bummer.

14 barrel means class 3 license but an 18 inches barrel works enough there ... you can have a longer barrel but you can have an handgun for grouse. nothing as good as shooting them with a 357 magnum ...revolver ...

One more thing. When you fill out the part about the ammo is it realy important to put dow the manufacturer's name?

Jozsef

I would think so. My handloads have my name and address. My .22 HP say Remington, Madison, NC, USA. Remember, anything Chinese or Russian is generally a no-go.

I figure if they are asking for name and address, I will give them name and address. It has always been a painless process for me to do that. Here is the Ammo section of my current approved Form 6NIA for reference...
