This year my youngest daughter wanted to go hunt for the first time. I had all the gear from my oldest who last minute said she doesn’t want to go. I asked the young one are you sure? She loves animals and can’t look at something dead and skinned ., but she said yes she really wanted to go. So we head up the night before and get a hotel with fireplace and lots of jerky.Itwas her idea, and I made sure we had alarm on for 5am. She wakes me at 430!and says let’s get moving.Out in the bush she’s like a true hunter ,no whining,no moving. She uses the binoculars like a pro.Looking at nature she says.We were on stand four hours and then to lunch. She wants to quickly go back out and we stayed on watch till dark.I said sorry we didn’t get anything and she replies she loved it and wants to go again.Boy am I lucky ,she really is a true naturalist and wanted to know about trees and plants. We will be going again I’m sure.

Out of my daughters; 2 of the 3 are a good fit hunting with.
They both got their 1st deer with the 8 x 57. No stress and they listen good too.
No false bravado like boys, lol

Very nice... great job getting your kids out in the woods... BUT, next time, smile for the picture, Dad!

Yah problem the phone died as we were taking pics and those two were the only ones that we got cold zapped the iphone was -8 and no complaints damn I’m proud she even made me buy her a rifle at Epps for her Winchester short in 38-55 .they gave us a deal when they found out it was for her. She even named it Jeremiah. I cracked up.

Lucky you. My girls are still too young to out for hunting, but I've already taught them how to safely and properly handle my rifles at the range. I believe the only obstacle is my significant half's approval when time is coming.

I have 2 daughters. 5 yrs. ago 1 said ,,,, "I want to go Hunting @ our family 200 acre deer camp . "
In the last 4 seasons she has killed 3 deer. The last was a heavy bodied & had heavy antlers
with 9 points . Actually was 10 but 1 had deformed. This Sat. is her #5 season .

Great job to all!!

My middle is a total animal lover but gets the circle of life.
We eat venison and the question are around what a great life that animal must have had out in the wild. Feeling sorry for the poor cows stick in barn. Please pass the salt...

Great stuff! Hopefully if you have some luck, it doesn't turn her off. I got my daughter out a couple times and we were lucky enough to get a nice tom turkey a couple springs back. She wasn't upset, and said she thought the whole thing was pretty neat, but she wasn't keen on killing stuff and hasn't wanted to come again since. She loves to fish though - all catch and release, of course. lol

Yah we kinda made a deal that if a deer came through she would call the shot. To shoot or not . I told her it would be okay either way and we’re here to take it all in , the cold and the sun on our faces .We saw ravens, crows, blue jays that she said were the alarms of the forests and a few red squirrels. I told her it was an awsome day and she agreed. She did say she wanted to get a mount for the wall and I explained we are here for the meat and trophy’s she can decide on later .She stayed she wants to make jerky and chillie out of deer . She love duck jerky but not goose.Loves fishing and eating fresh fish. She understands the circle of life but I want to go real slow about an animal giving it’s life for food .Still trying to figure out how she will take it. She has a wild game cookbook and maybe I’ll get her to try the recipe in her book.I don’t think that if we get one I’ll gut it in front of her the first time. Maybe someone has done this before and can make a suggestion.I don’t want to turn her off.

Good job OP!

In the past, the numbers of people hunting and shooting suffered because dad’s didn’t take their daughters and wives hunting or shooting. Half the population are women and we need everyone on board, so thanks to everyone that takes out their daughters, wives, or girlfriends hunting or shooting.

Gut the animals the first few times, but don’t always do the dirty work. There are some things my dad did and I was happy to let him do them and when he got older and weaker, he did more of the dirty jobs while I took up the heavy lifting, but now he is gone and sometimes I find I’m not adequate at some of the things he did. Watching can teach a lot, but hands on is always the best training.

Thanks for that O.P....I'm sitting here now reminiscing of a deer hunt 36 years ago with a then 3 year old daughter, a couple hours into the hunt she said to me "dad, I'm getting hungry, maybe you should shoot a deer so we can eat some", this coming from a 3 yr old and I wanted to see where it would go so I asker her "how were we going to cook it"...her reply "maybe we could burn some grass and cook it...she had it all figured out at 3 yrs old.

She never became a hunter as "big cities" became her adult lifestyle (Edmonton, Chicago now and moving to New York in a month) but every time she walks into our house on a trip home it isn't very long before she's in the fridge looking for that bag of deer jerky we try to always keep there.
