Taking my daughter hunting first time

Thanks for that O.P....I'm sitting here now reminiscing of a deer hunt 36 years ago with a then 3 year old daughter, a couple hours into the hunt she said to me "dad, I'm getting hungry, maybe you should shoot a deer so we can eat some", this coming from a 3 yr old and I wanted to see where it would go so I asker her "how were we going to cook it"...her reply "maybe we could burn some grass and cook it...she had it all figured out at 3 yrs old.

She never became a hunter as "big cities" became her adult lifestyle (Edmonton, Chicago now and moving to New York in a month) but every time she walks into our house on a trip home it isn't very long before she's in the fridge looking for that bag of deer jerky we try to always keep there.

Good work :)

She's cute! I just dont think shes gonna be a hunter since shes an animal lover but enjoy your future quests

Great to see, congrats.

I have 2 daughters and my youngest enjoys hunting with me but she is away at school so it will be another 2 years before she can join me again.

Yah we kinda made a deal that if a deer came through she would call the shot. To shoot or not . I told her it would be okay either way and we’re here to take it all in , the cold and the sun on our faces .We saw ravens, crows, blue jays that she said were the alarms of the forests and a few red squirrels. I told her it was an awsome day and she agreed. She did say she wanted to get a mount for the wall and I explained we are here for the meat and trophy’s she can decide on later .She stayed she wants to make jerky and chillie out of deer . She love duck jerky but not goose.Loves fishing and eating fresh fish. She understands the circle of life but I want to go real slow about an animal giving it’s life for food .Still trying to figure out how she will take it. She has a wild game cookbook and maybe I’ll get her to try the recipe in her book.I don’t think that if we get one I’ll gut it in front of her the first time. Maybe someone has done this before and can make a suggestion.I don’t want to turn her off.

Sounds like you are doing it "right" already. Let her make the decisions but offer to have her participate in every aspect. She will ultimately decide what she is comfortable with. You letting her call the shot tells me you are doing a great job and are out there for the right reasons. Sometimes girls need to find excuses to spend times with their dad's. This sounds more like genuine interest, so continue to embrace it as you are.

Happy Hunting!
