I just sold my 300WM. So I'm basically what you could call Magnumless. I'd like to have one around, just incase I need something to reach a bit farther out and touch something. Never really thought much about the 7mmRM before, but there are some interesting Tikkas and Husqvarnas out there for it. So should I get one or keep looking for something in 300 H&H or 308 NM? I already have smaller and larger calibers covered with non-magnums.

Sounds like you already talked yourself into it. Do you really need more of a reason than that?

I own a 7mmRM. I like it, I'm used to it, but I know that other cartridges will perform similarly. I would be more concerned with the type of rifle you get. You say that the ones you found were interesting. Go with that!

I think it was Gitrdun that posted a thread a while back about his invite to an older gentleman's trophy room. The guy had species from Africa, Alaska, pretty much everything you could imagine. And when Gitrdun asked what rifle the old boy used to get all these, the guy sheepishly produced a winchester bolt gun in 7mm RM.

I think that was how the story went...

The 7mm is great. Extremely high BC for its bullet weight, and a vast bullet choice, only below the 30 cal.

I shoot a 7WSM; with 140gr Partitions it has served me well so far. :) The 7RM would work just as well, but if you like to shave off some weight, take a look at the short action for sure.

Would you use the 160 gr accubonds for Moose and Elk?

I think we should lock mackillan and his 7mmRM up or else there will be more large game left in North America.:50cal:

7mm Mag.

You should buy one because you can buy ammo at every gas station and hardware store in the north country should you forget your ammo at home. At least this is what they say around here.

Yes X whatever the count is. 7mm Rem Mag is undoubtedly one of the top contenders for one-gun-for-everything. Tons of bullet choices, great long range power. If you can get a rifle to shoot them straight, the TSX is hard to beat. Packs a lot of smack way out there. AB's can be frustratingly accurate - makes it hard to pick a powder and load. They're almost all good. The older Tikkas in 7mm have a terrific habit of shooting all kinds of bullet weights and styles in any decent load pretty well in the same place. 50 rounds through mine, 10 different loads from 120's up to 175's, 5 different powders gave me a speed target that had about a 2" circle at 100 yards blown right out of it and no strays. Astonishing.
