Taming the 460 S&W

why would you want to? not trying to be a smartass, but serious.

if you want less punch, use a 45colt or a 454 casul

but a reduction in powder charge wont necessarily change your powder type unless it is profound

Unique, you could probably go pretty low with. That, or Bullseye. What exactly are you looking for, bullet weight and velocity-wise? If you just ran some non-ruger 45 colt loads, you'd probably have just what you're looking for. Go ahead and use them in your 460 brass if you want to save cleaning an extra crud ring, same idea as using 44mag brass with 44 special loads.

460V,

For the exact reason Curtmag suggests, the extra bullet jump and crud buildup. I really like shooting the 460 at 454 Casul velocities. Occasionally it must be shot at full 460 poop just for the shock and awe but for general shooting the reduced loads maybe easier on the ears. With a reduced load a person maybe able to more comfortably load the lighter cased, less expensive 250gr. XTP without fear of over extending it. Right now I am loading it with H110 and have read that it is not wise to drop it much less than recommended due to unreliable ignition.

Thanks for the replies all.
