How do I open these up for cleaning? Mine feels very gritty and the follower seems to be meeting alot of resistance.

the bottom 'plate' is very thick, and more of a big plastic cap than anything - there seem to be steel flaps that fold around onto plastic notches to keep it on. But no clear way of opening it

You mean the 20/5 rounders? The black cap won't come off, drill a hole between tapco and USA, cause inside the cap there's a push button basically that when depressed will allow the cap and floorplate of the mag to slide off.

There's been a few treads on this topic before. I know if you search you'll find what you're looking for.

Blegend had it right though. Make a hole between the "O" and "U" Where it says Tapco USA on the base of the mag. I used a little pocket knife while watching tv and took all of 2 minutes to get through. Once the hole is made, stick a screwdriver or something through to depress the tab and slide the base forward. Easy breezy.
