Just wondering how stable the hand guard rail is on the SKS Tapco Fusion stock (I haven`t received mine yet) and if its suitable for mounting a red dot sight?

some you can and some you cant. there is a little movement on mine so i never bothered putting a red dot up there. my buddies is rock solid and can probaly mount a red dot there. you will have to wait to you get yours to find out for sure.

I ordered the gas tube with handguard separately for an extra $60, that thing is so tight i had to file it down just to get it to fit.

Have thought about it and here's what I found out:

It sounds good on paper but is touch and go in reality. As a rule, the gas tube heats up during firing and that is bound to cause some movement. One CGN'er bought an aftermarket gas tube scope mount and installed it in real tight but still had issues as the tube heated up. It may work at times but one thing is certain: It wont' 100% of the time.

So if you go that way, the only issue is that you will always have that nagging thought in the back of you mind whenever your POI begins to wander.

When does plastic ever come to mind as a good material when mounting optics over a heat source?

It's there for looks.

Short answer: No. I ground mine off and now the sight picture with the irons is 100% better.
