I headed out the other day to shoot my Tapco fitted Norinco and 1950 Tula in a Monte Carlo stock.
Both shot flawlessly no jams, no feeding issues...nothing.
The 50 Tula in the ATI Monte Carlo was a dream to shoot. The rifle felt really tight and solid and it's bolt & carrier ran a bit smoother than the Norinco's. Minimal difference noticeable I should mention. The ATI is a bit heavier, but also better balanced. The molded cheek rest was very nice.
The Tapco felt a little "clunky" when firing, kinda hard to explain.
Just more rigid/boxy feeling when aiming and during the recoil and target reacquisition.
Not enough to make for a bad experience though that's for sure. Just in comparison to the Tula ATI.
The Norinco performed really well and was very accurate at about 30-50 yds.
Both rifles had Tapco 20/5 mags and were predominantly loaded with stripper clips. (no issues)
The bolt hold functioned great with the mags too, after some filing I had done at home. So I was happy about that since I had taken care of that without firing the rifles first. So it was just pop, pop, pop, over and over again without any hiccups in the field.
I was shooting non-corrosive Barnaul rounds, and the cases ejected approx. 20-30 feet straight up in the air and were landing at the 1'o clock position. (Just forward and to the right of the pointed muzzle)
Lot's of fun for sure. Can't wait to set aside time to go again before too much snow shows up.
Just got to clean 'em up tonight. Being non-corrosive, I didn't feel bad leaving them for a day.
I think my ATI Tula is going to be my #1 shooter though. It felt GREAT.
