did any try to change the wood handguard to tapco or anymore after market handguard, because i been trying to change my handguard, i spend hours to take the pin out, but i can't, need some help.

Thanks

Mine is seized in there too. I was just trying to take it off for a dip in a cleaning tank, but it was just going to strip if I kept trying. I'd say offhand that drilling it out is the only way.

The solid pin has the exposed ends peened to prevent drifting. If you have to remove it, you must use an appropriate sized drill bit to remove one exposed side. Then the pin can be drifted out with the same sized drift punch (narrow end toward wide end).

You will need to protect the wood hand guard, have a suitable surface to support the pinned end, and a third hand to do it all.

If you don't remove too much material from the pin, it can be reused and prick punched.

If you are doing this to a mint non refurbed Soviet SKS, then you will suffer eternal damnation.....

As the above post stated, you need to remove one of the exposed pin shoulders, via drill, so that it can be drifted out.

You don't have to drill beyond a 1mm in depth, with a similar sized bit.

I removed mine without drilling. Course it was a PITA to put back. The hammer got a work out that day.

It's a norc btw

I have changed out 4 Norinco piston covers with no drilling.

Tools I have used are:

1. Ball peen hammer
2. Vice
3. Punch set
4. Starter punch

In case of emergency:

1. Hack saw
2. Grinder
3. Drill Steel

I simply put the cover in a vice, place the starter punch on the "untapered side" of the pin, and start tapping. Usually after 5-10 taps, it's out. It has to go back in the same way it came out.

Change out the cover.

Put the sleeve back on.

Put the pin in the hole. Line it up. Get a punch out of the punch kit (slightly bigger than the pin) grab the ball peen hammer and start tapping.

Done.
