I was thinking of getting a T6 stock. I noticed some of the models had a handguard that came with an integral rail. Can someone tell me what the rail is made of? Is it just molded plastic or is it actually metal? Has anyone mounted a scope using it, what are your impressions? If the rail is plastic, then i'm going to go with the scout scope mount.

I already have the T6 stock in dark earth colour (tan) on my 10/22, and I really like it. I've recently ordered a black set for my SKS...does the rail on the handguard obstruct the iron sights at all or not?

If it does, then I'll keep the plain black plastic hand guard that's on it right now that is part of my Butler Creek sporter stock.

The handguard doesn't obstruct the original iron sights. But if you use the mojo sights, it will (with the two largest apperture)
I don't know why they put a rail on the handgard. Maybe for the "cool ninja mail factor" but not being able to properly see my mojo sight ain't cool at all

Thanks, simonsez...I think I'll keep the plain black plastic handguard that's on the gas tube already that came with my Butler Creek sporter kit, and just swap on the rest of the stock. I have no plans on using some sort of scout optics with that cheezy rail anyway as the iron sights work fine out to 200y (combat not target accurate, of course).

There are several places that you can order rail mounts for an SKS. Don't use the handguard rail but get the stock...it works great.
reciever cover replacements work well if you can find one that fits good and tight or there are side mounting rails as well...good hunting.
