TAR-21 (Direct Gas or Piston?)

I was at a range with a fellow range member that had a Tavor. He claims that they can be used "over the beach" as it was a piston rifle. I looked at it and it sure looked like it has a piston design/parts above the barrel. However online there are stats that claim it's gas operated (which is basically every semi/auto rifle).

Anyone here can confirm of it's "swimming" capabilites?

It's gas operated as in gas pushes on the long stroke piston. It is over the beach ready and there a few videos on YouTube showing just that.

I was super tempted to do an over the beach test this summer. Then I saw Steve Janes take his Swiss Arms to the max and crack the barrel. I opted to trust the Israelis rather than try it for myself.
