Hey all,

I picked up a Tavor that was missing some parts, got it all together and tried a test fire. It is light striking the primers. It feeds, chambers and extracts just fine. I dissembled the bolt and the firing pin is intact and not warped in any way.

Any ideas where to start with potential diagnosis?

Is it the first round of the mag? Make sure you are letting the bolt slam home. Don't baby it. If not you'll need to try to think of any parts you may have overlooked. Not sure what would cause it though unless your trigger pack has an issue.

Do a deep clean with a Q-tip and / or pipe cleaner to make sure there's nothing in the firing pin channel of your bolt. You never know, some crud might be in there that could explain it.

I was using the bolt release so I don’t think I rode it home. Every round of the mag is a light strike. It’s dimpling the primer but not igniting it.

Check your trigger pack. Is everything oriented properly? If the gun was missing parts maybe someone fiddled with it. Check the tension of the hammer spring too. What kind of ammunition are you using? If it's handloaded that opens up a whole other set of possible issues. I also started this off assuming the rifle was thoroughly cleaned at some point.

I'd give the bolt a good clean and check your trigger pack. Could be some "hand lightening" has given you trouble.

I'm in Calgary if you're looking for face-to-face assistance. Fire me a PM

Do you know what parts it was missing...? There's good reason why the firing pin spring is in there (they added it after Canadians started having problems!) so if you're still getting light strikes with it removed there's something else wrong

Take TV-PP up on his offer of assistance. I don't know anyone with a more thorough knowledge of the platform.

Agree with this. You need to have someone work through the components with you.

In order of probabilities with the combination of ..

1. Ammo
2. Firing pin spring
3. Trigger pack
4. Bolt head
