Now that my little Cooey Model 60 project is well under way, wood refinished and metal blasted and ready to be parkerized, I was contemplating on recrowing the barrel.
I'm thinking of putting her in the lathe and cutting an 11degree crown........any thoughts???

Why not? I personally prefer a recessed 90 degree crown, but that is a personal thing. You may find that the bore is not dead centre in the barrel. Be sure to index off the bore.

Does not sound too crazy, your going through the fun of restoring it might as well make it better while your there.

If you have the barrel off, why not cut a tighter chamber too?

Brownells sells that particular crown cutter, I recently had one sent to me. No problems whatsoever, but you need to decide what size pilot to get. I got the .215" pilot for mine and it works excellent. Glad I bought it. Later.

Had my 1022 in to Bits of Pieces to get the trigger done and crowning the barrel was one thing Barry reccommended. He seemed to think it would have some small effect on accuracy. Every little bit helps. Shoots real nice now, especially since I took the tupperware off and put a wood stock on.

I used the Brownell's 11 deg crown cutter on many .22s, including a cooey. The size of the pilot is critical, I recommend you to get a bigger one rather than a smaller one. Theres a pic of the perfect muzzle pattern.

Brownell's Cutter

Hi;

I'm working on a project gun as well and I want to use one of these 11 deg target crown cutters from Brownells.

I'm not really interested in buying one new, but I'm wondering if anybody who has one would be interested in selling it to me used or perhaps loaning / renting it to me?

Just PM me if you're interested in helping!

Thanks!

Hey Sixty9santa, I have to ask you...where are you located in qc? I have my cooey 60 down to bare metal and I'm looking at my options for finish. Thought of parkerizing, but I'm still unsure.

Do post pics of your project so far!
