Any ideas or experience with turning cheap target clay loads into buckshot loads? Good patterning and effective for hunting? Or really awful performance?

Some videos on it I found on YouTube lol. Not sure if it's safe or not. Unless the buckshot u put in weighs same as the tiny shot u took out of the shell

Probably weigh less... Small pellets occupy space more efficiently, smaller gaps between them.

Anyways... Are you talking about cut shells? Or casting your own buck pellets and loading them into target shells?

Didn't think you were talking about just swapping out the projectile ..

not something I'd want to make a habit of ... than again, there is that last resort Zombie thing .

Yep I'm talking about swapping out the bird shot for buckshot lol. I don't wanna blow up my guns but I really wanna use buckshot but prices are way too high for myself to be plinking with factory buckshot so I figured maybe I could swap out the bird shot. Some people seal it off with wax and cardboard circles but that seems stupid to me. One dude was able to re-close the crimp on the shell after. Maybe one can simply add a tiny dab of super glue to the top of the crimp after to keep it from wanting open back up exposing the buckshot inside. Just a thought. I'm not talking about loadin it full of super glue. Just a tiny ammount lol

Well, personally I'd place that idea in the "last resort" camp. The powder charge is certainly going to be a bit different.

I do agree with you however .... practice is getting expensive !

Interesting ideas cyclone. Only thing about that is its not a rifled slug. I imagine somewhere somebody's got a rifled slug mold. That or buy so,e buckshot from bulletbarn

I've been thinking about it too and watched a few vids, some swear by it. I dunno I kinda lost the initiative after hearing on warm days the wax can melt or if jiggled around they can get a micro space between the wax and charge and that can create a not good situation.

Probably prying up the tops and remelting the birdshot into bigger shot would be better?. The crap people shoot thru shotguns is alarming...like washers and a sparkplug.

I've also wondered why in the hell is 7.5 birdshot like 40cents compared to some buck that is closer to a dollar, sometime over a dollar. The lead balls are there just made smaller, 1 1/8th ounce you'd think it'd be more expensive to make 50 bb's compared to 9.

Hell I'd love to have low brass buck like maybe 18 lead shot BB's would be ideal.

Ya price should be atleast the same if not cheaper. My grandpa used to mold everything for his 30-30 living off the grid so to speak and was offered to take the John Wayne movie crew for a tour through the wild in Mexico for a movie lol and actually refused to be involved in the movie. Would be cool to see an old film with my grandpa in it lol... I have a craving to make my own loads u just don't wanna blow anything up. I've reloaded for rifles before but never shotguns.

Because buckshot must be cast while lead shot can be formed with far less effort using the Bliemeister method.

Just throwing a crazy idea out there;

Why not getting a reloading press?
For instance a brand new Lee load All will cost you less than a flat of target loads.
You can pick up a used one for very little at a gunshow.
Don't know about MB but in my area $100 will buy you a used mec also.

Ya i guess a reloading press would be best clearly. Anybody have any idea on cost per shot when reloading buckshot? How cheap can I make them over round ? 20-30 cents a shot or less

Not a whole lot of savings to be had reloading 12 gauge, unless maybe you have a free source of suitable scrap lead and are willing to cast your own buckshot.

IMO the way to save money is to get a super tight premium choke and shoot bulk target loads, and save the expensive stuff for when its warranted.

Cheap birdshot becomes an acceptable buckshot substitute if it patterns tight enough.

Ah thanks, I knew there had to be a reason and wondered if it was to do with the primer or something but now I know.

They should have bliemeister buckshot lol.
