i am thinking of building a new target rifle around a .338 action.. What is the best action to look for? I am looking to buy a used rifle and stripping it, and buying a new barrel and stock. I know what stock i want but not sure which action or barrel to buy?

When you get to the optics/mounting etc etc part, make sure you have enough MOA-up combining the internal scope elevation adjustments and scope base for your future ballistic needs.
Because if you get to 1200 yards, and feel you are ready for more range, it's really nice to have the equipment already in place for really long distance play.

A .50 would be nice, but not sure that's the way i want to go. I will be building this rifle with an XLR inc stock.. love that stock i have one on my Rem 700 sps .223.
The stock will be $1000 so i would like to set a budget on the action and barrel around $1500. I am thinking it would be cheaper to buy a used rifle just for the action? as apposed to buying a new action?

Man i just checked out your website!! Lots of XLR stocks!! Do you stock them? I ordered my Rem .223 stock straight from XLR.
