If you want the full "fun" experience, come up with a list of components that are just a little different than the other guys and build, or have built a custom outfit.
Mine is a blue printed M-700 short action, modified to single shot, with the plunger removed, and a Dlask bolt handle. A Jewell trigger, a 1:8 Krieger 28" #9 contour .308 barrel chambered for .308, bedded in a McMillan A-5 stock with an Anchutz rail for a Parker Hale bi-pod. The rifle is now topped with a 4-16X50 S&B PM II 34 mm scope mounted with 40 minutes of slope (20 minutes for the Badger Ordnance base and 20 minutes built into the integral ring/base system that came with the scope). The S&B replaced the original Springfield Professional 6-20X54 that gave good service until the windage adjustments gave up. I have 2 Cosine Angle Indicators one from Horis Vision (difficult to get) and one from Sniper Tool Design (easy to get). This morning I ordered a new Service rifle sling for this rig from Leslie Tam in Hawaii.
I expect that this rifle will be a work in progression. Over time it's elements can be changed and upgraded as technology brings about better products. An advantage of the M-700 platform is that everyone makes products to hang on it, although Savage isn't far behind in this regard.
By the way, its a shooter.
