Hey I've got an fv-sr that needs some glass. I want something with decent quality and magnification and would really like a sun shade. Don't wanna spend more than $250 since it's only recreational target shooting. I've been looking at a Hawke varmint 6-24 AO with sunshade for $199 ,tasco target 10-40x50 with sunshade and lifetime warranty, and a bushnell banner dusk to dawn 4-12x. Does anyone out there have experience with these or know of any other scopes that fit my criteria?

oI have used several Tasco on low recoil rifles with good success, Optics are marginal with clarity poor at the high end of the magnification. My take on scopes are that there is no such thing as a good cheap scope. That being said i'm happy with a Vortex Diamondback on my 243, reasonable optics and not to pricey.

I'll agree with previous posts, Tasco is pure junk. The Nikon pro staff scopes have caught my eye and I've heard only good reviews about hawke. Vortex seems to be a new favourite and from what I e personally seen they are top notch.
Good luck:)

I got a Mueller APV 4.5-14 x40 AO on CGN about a year or so ago. Very decent! Very important for a rimfire to get a scope with parallax set for rimfire ranges - often set for 60-ish yards, compared to regular centerfire scope with parallax at 150 yards or more. Either rimfire parallax, or get a scope with Adjustable Objective. I have this Mueller on a CZ 452 Sihouette, the Leupold VX-1 2-7 rimfire on a 9422 Mag and the Leupold VX-2 3-9 rimfire on a Ruger 77/22Mag.

I've done a fair bit of searching and cannot find a mueller apv 4.5-14 anywhere. They would be one of my top choices for a rimfire. Where can I get one? Any dealers in canada?

My budget 10/22 scope is a Sightron SI Hunter Series 4-12x40 for 200$ you cant go wrong.... Its clearer and has a better field of view than the Nikon P-22

It really depends on what kind of target shooting you have in mind. Bench or offhand? 50/100 meters or beyond? Are you planning to hunt with the scope or is it going to be dedicated to your target shooting only? Lots of good suggestions from other members.

I put a Bushnell Banner 3x9 on my 1022, up to 50 yards its good, at a 100 yards I find it barely adequate, but for a $100.00 tax in it was an ok buy.

I cant say this enough, you get what you pay for with optics.
A $200 tasco varmint on a 30-30 isnt going to last a day. On a rimfire, it works just fine.
When I firat started shooting everyone said save your money and buy once.
The optic should be atleast half to the same price as the rifle.
If you want a serious scope, plain on double the rifles cost.
I really thought they were full of it! Crazy spending up to or over 1k on a scope.
I learned the hard way. After buying two tascos, a rimfire bushnell and a few chinese knockoff scopes, I finally bought a Sightron S3 and bushnell ultralight.
Apples and oranges difference on weight, size and most of all exit pupil/eye relief.
Once you own a good scope, you can swap it to any gun you have.
I could have saved alot of money and time if I had a listened all along.

I put a Tasco $100 6-18 AO on my T-Bolt.
First impressions were good, but I pulled it off and put on a used VX II 3-9x40 off the EE.
Kupple brown ones and I like the feel of it already.

The new Ruger 'Merican I just purchased will end up leafing the CZ Scout at home as I topped it
with a Weaver rimfire AO scope I purchased off here new.
Dang, should of bawt all he had.
Wonderful scope for the amount I pay'd.
Gofers beware in a few months.
Trigger at 16 ounces...................... :D

Bawt a Sightron rimfire and it's awn the Scout.
Not happy, nor sad with it.
Cross hairs are a tad thick for my liking.
And what is with those fony soft rubber flippy caps?
They don't stay on.

Cabelas has a Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12x40 AO mx reticle for $190. Good glass, has just that little extra X over the common 3-9's. Makes a big difference in seeing the poa consistently.
