Hey guys Im wondering what kind of usable range I can get out of 16x magnification? I have no representation at all of what my targets will look like at 200 or 300 yards with a 16x scope... can someone shed some light on this for me?

Lets assume Im shooting a .223 at 8x10" sheets at 300 yards. Would I see the entire sheet? Would I see the sheet and a bunch of background? Will the holes be clearly visible?

Thanks guys.

FWIW I had a 16x Super Sniper. I found that at 200 yards to spot holes in paper was a bit hard for my .222. I don't think you could see them at 300yards. As for an 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper., I had little trouble seeing the paper out to 500 yards. It looks small, but you can still hold on it with a bi-pod or proper rest. At 200 you clearly see paper and back ground. At 300 you get a nice field of view.

Hope this helps some.

FYI, the longest recorded sniper kill in history was made by one of our Canadian snipers in Afghanistan using a .50 cal rifle. The range was over 2.5 km! I believe a 16x Leupold is standard-issue on those rifles.

That's an indication of how far you can shoot with a 16x scope.

Kill maybe, but 16x, thats like shooting a fly at 280 yards :D no way Jose

Still, it's no big trick to hit a one-minute bullseye all the way out to 1,000 yards with iron sights, so a 16x scope, with the right crosshairs, is an ideal F-Class scope.
