target turrets?

Hi nutz!

i have just ordered a new scope with target turrets for my CZ 22LR. i have been trying to read and understand the whole thing. i am looking for maybe a MOA for dummies read. i have dont some math and am hoping one of you guys could tell me if i am on the right path.

gun is zeroed at 100yrds. shooting at 300yrds POI is 108" low. so at 300yrds 1 1/4"moa click is equal to 3/4" at 300yrds. so if i go 144clicks up i should be bang on. or 36 MOA?

108" / 3/4" =144 clicks =36 MOA

is their a formula to use? this is my first stab at long range shooting with target knobs.

any help would be great ps. i didnt know ware else to post this.

It has been very accurate for me. How many MOA does the elevation in your scope have? Some require moa rising bases to get the extra range. Burris ZEE rings are a good way to squeeze extra range out of a scope. I don't shoot that far personally with my .22's normally, so my scope is the 1" tube variety.

i am not sure how much adjusiblity the scope has yet. i did cheap out a little on this scope. i didnt want to spend a bunch to find out if long range is my thing. if i really enjoy it. i will step up to somthing a little more quality. this will get me a good feel i think.

I zero at 50 yards and go from there. Here's what I measured with 40 grain AE solids fired from a CZ452 at 27 C.
75y plus 2
100 plus 5-6
125 plus 10
150 plus 14
175 plus 18
200 plus 23 MOA

Hope this helps. Its my actual measurements. When I switch to Federal 36 grains, the 100 yard zero drops to plus 5
 
I calculate the amount of MOA at given distance first, then count the clicks.

for example:
108" @ 300yards = 36moa (108/3)
4 clicks = 1 moa, so 144 clicks.

I find it easier and able to do the math in my head, and one of my scopes click @ 1/6 moa instead of 1/4 moa.
 
OP, just be aware that the clicks on the scope are unlikely to be exactly 1/4MOA. Serious target shooters test their scope adjustments through the entire range and note what the adjustments actually are, then use those numbers.

One of the beautiful things with target turrets is that you can find your zero at each range and record the elevation setting on the turret, then you can simply dial back to that setting the next time you want to shoot at that range.

Is your scope a 1" tube or 30mm? If it's 1" it likely has a max elevation of 50 moa from bottom to top. So you would need to use Burris ZEE rings with ring spacers or a 20 moa rail to gain the extra elevation. Otherwise, assuming the reticle centers itself zeroed at 60m, you only have a max elevation of 25 moa left. After 100m you'd only have 20 moa left. It would take you out to 200, maybe, but not 300m
