I just wanted to put up a quick message about the political situation that occurred this past weekend to keep our clients informed with what we know and how it is affecting things here.
We are importers and , of course, it will have a direct affect on all items we import for inventory and for clients, As far as we know, this will only affect goods made in the USA, not all goods coming in from the USA.
We have noticed a big increase in sales since the announcement by Trudeau, so, please be patient as we try to get orders shipped in a timely manner. Customers are trying to buy before the 25% increase happens (if it happens)
May products we carry are, of course, made in the USA. (a partial list is below) Some we are direct and others we get from Canadian distributors or a combination of the two. For these products, we we no longer be importing in the short term until we see how long it looks like this may last. It would be disastrous for us to bring in a large amount of inventory with the 25% tariff paid to Trudeau only to have it be taken off before we sell the product. 25% would far exceed the profit margin and we would be selling at a significant loss. It would be my prediction that our Canadian suppliers will do much the same; hold off importing any USA products at least until it looks like this will be in place for the long term.
If and when USA imports do resume, of course, retail prices will increase by the 25% tariff amount.

Appreciate the update Clay

perfectly reasonable approach. I appreciate the upfront acknowledgment of the issues and sympathize/hope for the best for businesses that are affected

Hmmmm, Mexico agreed to put 10,000 of their soldiers on the border....trump suspended the Mexico 25% tariff.

Canada imposes counter tariffs and enters a Trade War, could it really have been this easy to stop the tariffs...Go Turdo Go ???
What is the purpose of putting Canadian troops at our border? Does no one know how borders work? Smugglers/Fentanyl entering USA from Canada interact with US border officials. Canada has already agreed to increase budget to the tune of 1.3 billion on border services.

Trump this afternoon has now switched to complaining about Canadians not buying their ####ty hormone pumped dairy, and that US banks don’t operate in Canada. It’s because it would be uneconomical for US banks to expand networks here with our strict regulations. All this posturing is just stupid.

If in 2015 Trudeau vetted everyone who was requesting a VISA and made the proper improvements at the border there would be no tariffs. I know it's the US side that is responsible for who enteres but if most of the people being caught are recent newcomers to Canada on a student visa or captured in the USA. It all comes back to JT - this buy Canadian BS doesn't stop me from buying US made goods. If it were true that JT loves Canada he would have thought about us Canadians instead of giving close to ONE BILLION to Ukraine.
