Well at long last the drawings are done for the Tartan Tactical M14 scope mount. This mount will be similer in design to the Smith Enterprize mount. Unfortunately it will not be cheap. I can assure you that it will be of the highest quality available. We were thinking about offering one out of aluminum to try to have a lower cost option as well. What do you guys think? Should we offer an aluminum one or just stick with the alloy steel?

as you probably know, the aluminum version of any of the mounts has problems b/c of the expansion rates of steel vs aluminum- the "better" mounts are all steel- so i'd enter the arena with the steel version - even the chinese are offering an aluminum version for as little as 60 bucks stateside

iit's the mount/dismount/mount again zero that gives the problem, or you fire a bunch of shots like in a match, and the mount will loosen off- then you have to tighten it up again- that's what makes the aluminum a"poorer" choice than the steel- the aluminum expands and contracts at a different rate than the steel it's bolted to , and that makes it loose- i've got a 3rd generation springfield that;s never had a problem either, but that's becasue i tightened it according to springfield methods- a hammer and cold chisel against the mounting screw - it's on their site- but dismount that for use on another rifle, and you're supposedly in trouble

OK so what are looking at as a difference? If it is $200 for steel and $160 for alum it isn't worth trying to save a few $. If it was $400 for steel and $160 for alum it might be worth it.
