I am currently working on putting my Tasco, 4 x 15MM scope on my .22 Cooey. It already has 4 pre-drilled holes on the site for a side mount base. Is this easy to pickup in a store or do I need to get a base made in aluminum? I have removed the mount and rings that came with the scope.

Weaver makes a side mount base for it. What model is it? For a 60 or 600 you'll need #2side mount. For a model 71 you'll need a #1 side mount. You'll also need the side mount rings as well. You can go to the weaver website, that's where I got the part #s from.

The side mount base and rings can be got from Cabela's Canada in Winnipeg. The part numbers you need to order are.... base...641202...rings...640087 These rings fit a 1 inch tube so you will require a newer scope. You may find an original mount sometime but rare they are and the small scope does not lend to spotting game quickly and leave much to be desired in the vision department

You could also send it to a smith and have it drilled and tapped for weaver bases. I personally dont like my scopes mounted to the side. I have a model 60 that was drilled and tapped to accept weaver bases on the top and then I mounted a 3-9x32 tasco. Works quite well.

If it is a bolt action make sure whom ever drills and taps removes the bolt so they dont drill into it, like the hack that mounted mine did:mad: Also a good idea to replace the bolt with an aluminum or brass rod, this way the reciever doesnt flex under the pressure of the drill.
