O.k., this may seem like comparing 2 different types of dog crap to some people but since I've got limited means I have to make a choice.
I have a Martini Cadet Sporter in .25-20 and am having it scoped.
I've decided to go a variable medium power scope so that when I'm out walking I can have fast target at close range but also have reasonable capabilities on shots out to 150yds.
My choices have ended up between the Nikko Sterling NightEater 1.5-6x36 andthe Tasco World Class 2-8x32.
I like the idea of the Tasco more as I already have 2 of them and have found them good value.
Plus the Tasco has more power as well.
On the other hand the NightEaters are supposed to be good in the dusk or night, and night hunting using spotlight is legal here in Australia.
It also has a slightly larger objective lense.
So what's the consensus?
Tasco or Nikko Sterling?
And believe me on this......if I could afford something better I'd buy it.

Hey Kombi, I understand your situation although I don't know if getting one of these scopes will help you or prolong the pain and suffering. I have never owned a Nikko, let alone even heard of the brand before so I cannot comment on them.
I did however have a Tasco 3-9x40, believe it was a world class. It was a world class piece of crap, it shifted point of impact with every round fired on both my Husky 06 and a Blr 243. If I remember right, I also had a fixed 4 power on my .22 and it was alright but still nothing great.
In these kind of situations I generally will park another toy in the cabinet for a bit and rob the scope off of it. This way you could budget $20 or $40 bucks a month, over a year of saving you will be suprised to find a scope for your rifle that you will never have to wonder about when you go slaying roos. At the very least I would say get a bushnell if you cannot find a used higher quality item. Maybe pawn off your wife's silverware! :)
Best of luck!
Noel

I had a Nikko once along with a few of my shooting friends. They liked the look, and price, of the one I had so they got one. They turned out to be crap. Could never hold ZERO. That was a my 223. The same with the others. I had good luck with Tasco.

I have seen two nikko scopes where the crosshairs broke while shooting.I would be looking at a bushnell banner as they seem better than either tasco or nikko while still being low priced.

I bought a Nikko Sterling " diamond " scope , 3-9 x 44 .
I have been very happy with it , on a 300 WM bolt action .
Last hunting season I fell while crossing a logging cut and the gen went down hard on the scope . I thought the scope was buggered but it was the stock on the gun . My dealer had me going again in no time and it still shoots great . For me it's a good product with a good local dealer .
Just my 2 cents .

Out of the two I would pick a tasco. I've had both and can't say I liked the nikko a whole lot.

Dave.

The Bushnell 3200 is just at the upper end of your price range, and is really what you ought to jump for, you won't regret it. Spend the most you can afford on glass as it is what determines where your lovely rifle actually sends its bullet. At the moment I have on $450 rifle that will be wearing a $1500 scope for a little while.

Well brother, I hate to say it, but you should hold off until you can afford something better. In the long run a ####e scope will do you no good. By waiting you'll be out nought but the time. Save some scratch and get something a bit better. It doesn't have to be a Schmidt & Bender, but something that works but is a bit more expensive will be better than a busted scope or one that shifts POI.

In the UK I have seen Super Sniper scopes branded as a Nikko; fwiw I have also seen and used Super Sniper scopes branded as Tasco....from that I have concluded that these are simply "brands" and either can be ok depending on who is making the scope and what the quality/price "point" is.....in this case - if they are about the same price - it is likely they are of similar quality.
