I know tasco is a "lower end" company, but I was wondering if the Target/Varmint 10-40X50mm would be able to withstand the recoil of a .300 win. mag? I know that the .300 win. mag is pretty bad for recoil, but the scope is shockproof so I would think that it would be able to withstand a good deal of recoil, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with one of these scopes? I was thinking of using it for long-range target shooting from 500-1000+ yrds. Thanks for any info.

I was considering one of their $100 6-24x40 Mildot scopes for my .308. After extensive touching and feeling, I'm saving my money for something good. I advise you to do the same. 1/4 MOA of slop in the turrets is just plain bad. You get what you pay for. :)

I have a 6x24Tasco varmint on a 300win mag Parker hale...the scope was $110 and I havent had any trouble with it . Yes, you do get what you pay for but im just answering your post cause I have done what you want to do.

I agree with Chavez in that you should try to buy the best scope you can but so far I havent had any trouble with this combo.....maybe shot 80-100 rounds so far.....but then you might buy one and blow it up first shot.

I believe the cheap Tasco target/varmint/tactical scopes are better suited for .22 rimfires than for centerfires:rolleyes: The optics are not too bad for the money but I put a Tasco Varmint/Tactical mildot 2.5-10X42 on my HK SL8 .223 and it does not hold zero very well now and I am now looking for a better scope.

I have 2 of the Tasco 24x, japanese made scopes. I think they were called target/silohouette models. They have been very reliable, one is on a switch barrel rifle that has about 600 rds thru the .308 barrel ,and 400 thru the .220 swift barrel. It has a 6br barrel in the works.

On the 6-24x42 I played with, it wasn't useable over about 15x.....impossible to focus and eye releif was brutal. I imagine the 10-40 would only be useable to about 18x then the same problem would occur.
Best advice is to stay away from any scope made in china, and any low end scope that has a 4x (6-24, 4-16, 8-32,etc) variable power adjustment. You need serious high end glass (like nightforce for example) to get a useable 4x or higher variable. Stick with the 3x (3-9, 4-12,6-18, etc) multiples and anything not made in china and you will be OK. Clarity is far more important in a scope than how high the magnification is.

ya, they seem a little cheap......I found a better deal, you can get a BARSKA SWAT 10-40X50mm with illuminated rectile for about $400 american, even thopugh it costs a bit more I think it is much better quality, also comes with sunshade and flip-up scope caps..........the only thing that looks cheap on those scopes are the rings, but you can easily put on a set of better ones....

Black Bear,

Barska is not much better quality, if any, than the Tasco. :(

If your budget will handle $400 US, there are all kinds of good used scopes available right right here on this board for that much money or less.

Just ask, and I'll bet you will be able to take your pick! :D
