tasco varmit scopes

I bought mine (6-24) last January and put it on a new Tikka T3 in 22 250. Worked up a half dozen loads which all shot under an inch, but settled on one that has given several groups (3 shot) under 3/8ths of an inch.

I found the Tasco to be fine in the gopher patch, but had to keep magnification down to about 11 power or field of view became too small, and paralax adjustment too critical. Just replaced it with a Mueller APV this weekend and wish I had gone to it sooner. I would recommend spending the extra $100 or so, especially if coyotes are in your plans.:shotgun:

Or if you could scrape $ 200 plus shipping you might be able to snag a Bushnell Elite 3200 10X40mm Mildot. Much better knobs, much better warranty, and you always get your money out of the 10X version. They hold their value very well.

I've owned two of the 3.5 x 10 x 40mm Tasco Varmint scopes, bought them for around $ 100 apiece. Ended up giving them away to entry level buddies since I did not have the heart to 'sell' those scopes to them. If they ever krapped out, I would feel guilty.

I found that the little set screws that secure the adjusting windage/elevation turrets were a goofy metric size (1.5mm). Then you had to loosen the 3 of them each turret.

So, I saved up some money and worked a few extra shifts loading chairlift at Blue Mountain, then I bought a Bushy 3200 Elite 10X Mildot. ONLY ONE set screw 3/32", I believe, to loosen and re-zero your turrets.

See what works for you, your game, and your budget.

cheers,
Barney

I think the Tasco varmint scopes work "ok" on rimfires, I wouldn't trust them on a centerfire though. But even then if it's a decent rimfire I'd spend at least $200 on a scope.

yea always spend the same amount on the scope as you did the gun thats my rule and it works for me

I once owned a Tasco 4-16x. The optics were OK, but the crosshairs drifted everytime I changed the power setting. Took me a lot of frustration before I finally figured that out.:runaway: Once I did, I just left it on 16x for target/groundhogs and the scope gave me good service for the money.
