Tau 7 or IZH 46M

Stock? Long gone.

Used market is it.

Might be time to search out available targets for purchase.

FWIW, almost 30 years ago, I was actively seeking a TAU-7. Ended up buying a used Pardini K-60 , for less than the ask of the TAU.

Wonderful fun, shooting a gun that held no grudges, but was clear in the results that if you did not hit what you aimed at, that was on you! :)

Sniping Locusts in the driveway was some really good times!

I really liked the Tau, but was really into trading and swapping so sold it for some reason to get something else. They were very efficient with gas. Mine shot just under 500fps and was way more accurate than anything else I have shot. It even preformed well in cooler temps. They come up every now and then. There is another company bringing in the 46m but I think it was pretty limited Air Venturi AV-46M.

Outdated design? Maybe... But in pistol shooting, the shooter is (more often than not) the limiting factor.
- at least for, going from a Tau to a Steyr didn't magically improve my scores...

Every so often I get the urge to buy a Izh46 , or a FWB 65/100... To keep at the cottage, as a nice plinker...

Also consider the pre charged CO2 pistols, the kind you charge from a fire extinguisher. I have an old Walther CP2. Convenient and highly accurate, tho heavier than the modern compressed air pistols.

Both the Tau 7 and the IZH-46M are very good non-PCP air pistols. I've had both and liked them a lot. The Tau 7 could use both CO2 cartridges or a larger user-filled CO2 cylinder. The IZH-46M is a single stroke pneumatic.

Neither appear to be available in Canada, although the IZH-46M, a Russian model, hasn't been available for over a decade, perhaps as a result of the Crimea-related sanctions from ten years ago. There is another very similar model, likely the same but only rebranded, the Air Venturi AV-46M. Apparently it has been available but isn't currently in stock anywhere in Canada.

I've been looking for a couple more decent used Tau-7's for a while, but no luck so far. All I've encountered are scammers and people who, judging by their asking price, have gold-plated their pistols. I picked one up for $300 a while back, and would be willing to go maybe as high as 450 for a nice one, but I really don't think these guns should be worth more than that.

Both guns are fun and nice to shoot. The trigger on the Baikal is absolutely wonderfull, and the one on the Tau 7 is also pretty good. The Tau is easier to shoot as you don't have to kock it at every shot. The original grip on the Baikal may need some sanding to fit your hand better. If you are shooting left handed you may have more luck finding a lefty grip for the Tau.

You might have luck looking for a used gun on the Canadian Airgun Forum, or the EE in Gunnutz. Another fun gun in the same category (and vintage) and price range is the Drulov Du-10, which is a 5 shot repeater. No left hand grip for the Drulov I believe.

As mentioned by previous posters, there are lots of even better quality CO-2 pistols available on the market as the Olympic shooters have all moved up to compressed air pistols.
