Taurus 1911 problems

I got my Taurus 1911 (my first 1911) in the mail today and took it appart to clean the grease off. I found a video on youtube that explained how and when the time came to put it back together I ended up with 2 pieces. In the booklet they are: FIRING PIN BLOCK LEVER and TRIGGER BAR LEVER.

I've been stuck with an un-assembled pistol for the last 5 hours, scraching my head and trying to figure what to do...

Anyone have a link to an armorer's .pdf or a more detailed video... Or plainly thinks I'm a noob and whant's to sort me out lol :slap:
 
Take it to a gunsmith.

They will charge you an idiot fee to put it back together - assuming you have all the parts.

In the future, don't take apart anything you can't put back together.

Teh internets, clever as the izx, does nat hold all teh answerz.
 
Sorry. I re-read my post and that comes off pretty snitty. Although that was my intent to a certain extent, I should explain:

Most of the time you don't need to completely disassemble any firearm to clean it prior to use, unless there is a problem with it.

Detail stripping and cleaning is an idea that has been foisted upon internet n00bs by wanna-be high-speed-low-drag operators. Not necessary unless you have a problem.

And if you do have a problem, it is one that is best addressed by someone with experience.

The titile of this thread should be changed to " I'm an idiot with a new gun", not Taurus 1911 problem, which is very misleading.

Lol well it took me a while but I did eventually figure it out. Thanks saskgunowner101 and Rudi, those links helped.

I know I shouldn't of messed with it in the first place, I just wanted to know more about the gun.

My bad on that, but all the info I found were based on the M1911A1 which doesn't have a firing pin block lever and a trigger bar lever, therefore the Taurus title.

You sound like a good guy, so I feel bad about being harsh with you in my first response.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to know more about the gun, and in fact that is a very admirable desire.

I don't want to continue to belabor the point, but now you know better.

Guns are not hugely complicated mechanisms, and I don't want to make them sound like they are beyond the understanding of the common man.

!BUT!


I have used and tinkered with guns since I was about 8. I have made guns from scratch. I am not a gunsmith, and I will be the first person to tell you that I do not know every thing about guns. You can learn something new about them every day. I learned something about a military issue rifle only last week that I should have known years ago.

Yeah, as I say above, the Taurus is not a 1911a1.

It's like calling your Honda civic '89 a Honda civic '97.

Not the same thing.
 
take it apart, then take it apart again, and again, and again. Only way to learn, you payed for it why not play with it?
IMHO taking things apart is the only way to learn. Take it from a guy who has an addiction for taking apart everything he owns. Whats the worst that could happen? You'll have to take it to a smith:)

Just got my new Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Loaded today and I've taken it apart and put it back together 3 times already :D
 
One good way of doing this is to start by taking say, 2 pieces off the gun. Watch how they were assembled, then put it back together.Do this a few times to get really aquainted with it. Then take ,say,4 pieces off.put it all together, etc.etc. And buy the manuals!They're priceless.
