Forgive me, i am not a well versed author and what follows is simply my personal experiance...

Some pistol's just look cute... Thats probably what cought my eye when i spotted this little jem behind the glass at a local store, it was lightly used by a previous owner who might have put a few boxes thru it before the novelty wore off for him, i did a bit of homework online and came up with very little on the 9mm 24/7 but the price was rite and i needed a 9mm for getting back into pistol shooting after a long dry spell so it "followed me home".

I wont go into much depth on the grip, i like it and i am a XL glove size but my better half is a ladies small and it seems to fit her just fine... The purchase on it is solid as a rock, if you cant keep a firm grasp on this thing shooting 147gr Speer GD's with sweaty palms then you probably should stick to .22LR thru a woodsman... its weird at first but the grooves seem to grow on or into you.

Now... i like a 1911 or 92FS... even the crisp break of a revolvers trigger intrigues me so needless to say switching to a striker fired pistol was a bit of a learning curve for me, i dont have a pull gauge and i hate to guess but i would call it around 5-6lb's with a glock'ish pull to it... nothing to write home about really.

Yeah i said GLOCK!... after all thats what Taurus had in mind when they built it just like there Beretta clones, While i highly doubt the 24/7 will ever win over the hearts and minds of the IPSC crowd i will say i will take my black badge with it in the spring and some of you might see me out and about at a match or two next summer with it... untill i can afford something better, because we have all heard how unreliable Taurus pistols are...

So there i was... a few months into owning the 24/7 with approx 3000rnd's of everything from Blazer aluminum cases to Winchester 147gr to PMC leadless and BDX reloads even 147gr Sper GD's and XTP handloads... and i said to myself HEY clean that poor thing!! so i pull the slide and strip it down to give it a detailed once over as i do after every trip to the range... nope... its still really clean inside... i put a few drops of CLP on the recoil spring and put the slide back on... i give the muzzle a wipe every now and then but thats because i shoot mostly reloads with power pistol and its a bit dirty.

Today... now that i think about it i have put alot of ammo thru it in the last month or two... another 2000rnd's... best clean it... nope... still pretty clean even shooting PP reload's... hmmm 5000+ rnd's and nothing really needs to be cleaned... bonus.

It's been a pretty good buy all in all... i have had very few issues with it aside from me not slapping the mag all the way in and a few reloads that i did before i bought my Lee FCD... the only thing i havent shot is unplated lead and so far i havent found anything it wont eat up and spit out...

I think this one's a keeper... smart, funny, cheap to play with and... cute.

Good review.

Only comment I have is that couple of drops on the slide rails would be a good idea, I never oil the recoil spring (just wipe it off).

24/7

Hi, love the review, like you i believe it is good value for the money! Hoping to get one this week, and also a jerecho 941, just love the weight and feel of it.
The taurus reputation seems to be getting better on the forums i have popped into, so thanks again for the positive imput.

We've had one for a while. All three of us love the thing, it's a nice shooting reliable 9mm. pistol. Does anyone know where I can get mags?

Yup but you probably won't like the price!

SFRC had some on there site not long ago, I picked 3 up at The Shooting Edge this fall in Calgary...

I'll try to make this short and sweet.(but i tend to ramble so i doubt it!)

I had my heart set on a ruger sr9, but i honestly had no idea you could buy guns online or that CGN even existed so every couple of days I walked into my local WSS and bugged teh guys asking them when they were coming in. After a month or 2 of this a Taurus 24/7 pro in .40 suddenly showed up in teh pistol case. I like it!

Suddenly it had followed me home! We went straight to the range, took it apart and wiped off the grease and oiled it up and shot about 200 rounds. Went home and took it apart again to give it a good cleaning, the plastic recoil guide rod shattered!

So off we go to WSS and they kindly accepted it as a return and ordered me a new one down from Calgary and i had it within a week.

This WAS my 1st pistol so I didn't know about proper grip or stance or anything so i shot it badly. Then once i learned i stil shot it badly. I had to drift the front and rear sights in opposite directions in order to get it to shoot straight and then it still shot a good 6-8 inches low. I had many others shoot it and everyone had the same issue. I tried lots of different loads of factory and reloaded ammo and none of it shot well or grouped well.

Then It got cold and i started shooting indoors. IPSC style with the local club. well it didn't take long for eh plastic basepads to shatter on the hard floors. the sig mags, cz mags, glock mags or any other mag with plastic basepads didn't shatter only the taurus.

since the mags were unusable at this point i figured it couldn't hurt to bubba them up and made my own out of hockey pucks. not pretty but it worked and i was ready to go again. I should mention that i did try to find replacement basepads, but basically no Taurus parts are available in canada.

This is already too long so I'll gloss over a few details, but here is my final bit.

finaly after about 5-7000 rouns(i never really kept track) the stiker spring got weak and i was gettin g light primer stikes. also the striker would sometimes stick forward and not reset. a new round would chanmber, but you had to rack the slide to reset the striker. It's suppsed to fire double action should you get a bad primer however at this point it wouldn't fire DA and the safely would not engage in DA mode. Finally as i was shooting one day the takedown pin sheared off and I was unable to take the gun apart to clean or repair. Taurus won't ship parts to canada and the only canadian importeres or taurus are Freedom ventures and FN sports, neither of which could get me the parts i needed (not their fault i'm NOT badmouthing them). I finally bought myself a CZ Shadow and sent the gun off for warrently repair. Again no canadian repair depot so WSS sent it to FN sports who sent it to miami. 8 months later i got it back good as new (in my eyes that isn't saying much) and it cost me $50 in shipping, but taurus charged me nothing for parts or labour.

All in all it's an ok gun for range playtime, however for IPSC or similar competition it's just not built well enough to last. It would be a different story if parts could be had to keep it running. It's designed for CCW in the states, where it's only going to be shot once or twice a year and the rest of the time just sit there.

Perhaps I'm the only one that has had issues with it, but it was TWO DIFFERNT guns I had break on me... Sorry for the long post guys! To the OP I'm glad you like yours, but i just had to let other people know that not everyone is happy with theirs.

Hey fair is fair... I haven't had any issues, I did adjust my sight because my pistol was shooting left but at least it IS adjustable unlike other guns.

Drop me a pm. We usually stock them and can have more in 7-10 days if needed

ndb86 sorry to here of your issues with your .40 . I have the same Taurus 24/7 pro in 40 cal i have fired 2000+ rounds and never had an issue only had to adjust site to the right now it is dead accurate. looking at your pics the mags look like you used them as a hammer. in my opinion it looks more like abuse than product quality

It's not abuse it's IPSC... Oh wait... Nevermind :D

LOL

In fairness it is a known issue that Taurus mag floor plates are brittle, when you drop them on the concrete they break... Glock mags will too sooner or later that's why they (glock) sell replacement parts cheaply but trying to get anything in Canada from Taurus other then a gun and a handfull of mags is quite difficult.

Varmit- No I didn't use them as a hammer. if you look at the two with origional basebads on them, they have normal wear marks on them. The other 4 lost some of their finish while i was grinding the "new" basepads down to fit.

and HW yep IPSC is not kind to mags, if i had known IPSC existed when i bought the gun and known that the mags were prone to breaking I wouldn't have purchased it. Same with with the parts availabiliy. None to be had.

I'm not saying it's bad gun, it's just not an IPSC gun. If it's all you can afford then go nuts, but in my experience you'd be better off buying something else to start with. For a range toy that doesn't get much use i'm sure it would last a very long time. IPSC is not a forgiving sport, either on the shooter or on the gun.

Again to the OP:

You said you got it so you could get back into pistol shooting. GOOD! I find handguns the most challenging (and fun!). If you plan to shoot IPSC with it take some felt or rubber or something and put it onteh basepads, unless you like buying whole new mags alot. Also since the 24/7 pro is not on the pordutcion list you would be shooting standard minor, which is a bit of a handicap, but if you're just out to have fun, who cares! just FYI. also holsters can be hard to find, fobus make the ru-97 that can be modified to work OR comp-tac.com makes ones specifically for the taurus. it was about $100 bucks, but very well built and worth the money. It's the one you can see in my pic.

Again sorry to walk all over your thread.

Hey no problem!, ya IPSC will be just for fun, more leaning towards just the black badge because a few ranges I shoot at want to see it for you to holster a pistol and training is fun anyway!

I have access to urethane at work and have been putting thought into building some floor plates for the mags but honestly I never plan on shooting indoors so I am a bit conflicted...

Fun guns to shoot tho!... Just picked up a Glock and I think I have been spoiled by my Taurus's trigger... Nite and day between the two.
