I have wanted a revolver in .454 Casull for as long as I can remember. In fact it is the reason I became interested in firearms, but for the life of me, I can't remember how I learned about it. Anyway, I have decided to get a Taurus Raging Bull in .454 Casull but I can't decided on a 6-1/2" or a 8-3/8" barrel.

There is a 10oz difference in weight between the two and theoretically the more mass in the gun the less recoil. But will 10oz make that much of a difference?

Also 8-3/8" barrel seems a bit excessive. I have a friend who owns a S&W 500 and that thing is a long as my forearm (including hand)!

Any advice?

I like the look of shorter barrelled revolvers, the reason the S&W 460V caught my eye.

The longer barrel and extra weight would help with recoil/muzzle flip with the 454 but do you really need it? That's your call.

There is a 454 from Taurus in a 5" barrel . . . just saying ;)

And the 454 in the 460V had noticeably less recoil than a hot load in my 5" 44MAG

You got lots of options.
