Looking for a .357mag (caliber choice non negotiable) Stainless wheel gun, have come down to these two. as I am a rookie to the handgun world I thought I'd ask the masses what they thought? Price is simmilar, weight is similar.... taurus ported, Ruger is not.... I prefer the taurus, but seem to see a lot more rugers around...

Purpose is for a range plinker and possible (if the gods smile) ATC sidearm.

I really like the raging bulls, but they are over a full pound more and no one seems to have them in stock :)

grips on both models would be upgraded, pac or Hogue.

Ruger

I Have Had A Ruger Gp100 For The Past 14 Yrs In .357 It Has Eaten Any Ammo, Any Load And Just Asked For Seconds. The Most Solid Handgun You Will Ever Own And You Never Have To Worry About It. It Just Keeps Shooting.

I dont own either one, but the only thing stopping me from buying a Taurus is their poor customer service reputation. That tracker sure is ###y lookin` though!

I think my Avatar says it all!
I have fired literally thousands of 38 rounds through this little girl, and she never falters! I find the grips great, but I installed a set of comp springs. just to lighten the pull in competition.
She also devours 357mag. full loads with comfort.
As for parts availability? I am not sure! We never need any!

I had ordered that exact Taurus in .357, but it never showed and I ended up getting a S&W 686. (They made the Taurus Tracker frame look identical to the S&W)

Anyway, I did my research and the Tracker is a GREAT gun, however I saw one or two mentions of the ported barrel actually spitting discharge residue on the face of the shooter when shooting some types of ammo for long periods. Something to look into.

Either way, my vote goes to Taurus 100%

Both are good guns. Taurus has NO customer service for the end user or the dealer, so you're on your own there. I did my own research and ended up with the Ruger, the right decision for me.

yeah those 15oz really come in handy when you run out of ammo and you need a good zombie whipping tool.

I just saw Tracker today, forgot how cute it was...it's like a baby version of my Raging bull :)

+1 for Ruger. I have more respect for Ruger than Taurus, in the past I had problems with both a Ruger and a Taurus. Ruger stood behind their product and repaired it. Taurus just stood as far behind their product as possible and they offered no help! Regards, Richard:D

RUGER ALL THE WAY!

I've owned mine for 13 years and have put thousands of 357 magnum loads through it with zero problems! It has been my 'most shot' handgun bar none!

I did put a spring kit in it when I first got it to lighten up the trigger pull though......

May I ask how much?

I am toying with the idea of getting a GP100 in SS.
