I am looking to get my frist handgun, after looking at them for some time now, I really had my heart set on a HK USP, but, alittle out of my price range, alas I went looking for something cheaper, I found the Taurus PT 24/7 PRO, I like the looks of it, good fit in my hands. my question is, are they a good brand, or something cheap and best to stay clear of? I also read about its new future that (the gun being single action) if a round does not go off, it switches to double action and if it still does not go off, the gun cycles itself and puts in a new shell? how would that work?

My 2 Cents...

The majority of those that have Taurus products generally seem to like them. It would appear that the advantage of paying less for a handgun is that you have the extra cash then for accessories and/or ammo to practice with. If that scenario works for you then go for it. :)

BTW - I don't own a Taurus & have never owned one. Nor do I have plans to own one in the future. I would like to shoot one sometime just to see what they are like, though.

If you get a good one you'll love it, if you get a bad one you'll hate it. That sounds like a cop-out answer but it seems to me that there are as many people that hate them as like them. The only Taurus I ever owned broke on me but I was able to get it fixed without too much hassle. The stuff I've seen at the trade shows lately seems decent enough but I have to admit I'd take a Glock, Ruger or S&W over the Taurus. just my opinion.

I'm with geologist. Check out their parts and service backup.

As far as the DA/SA thing, all DA/SA pistols will give a second strike in DA if the primer fails to fire (Beretta 92, SIG 226 etc). As far as cycling itself, that's a little unlikely.

Buy a used Glock, XD, SIG instead. You can buy one, shoot it, and get decent resale

I own a taurus revolver, it's a quality firearm for sure, I also handles a 24/7 (w/ stainless slide) it wasn't a PRO model which I don't think is out just yet. It wasn't bad (good choice if you want a smaller restricted gun), but it's just not really my style :p (neither is USP)

I'm kinda waiting for their (loaded) 1911 model; if it would cost ~$600-700 I may get one even though I don't like .45  :)

yes, except 27/4 is not a DA/SA it's a DAO (no hammer) just like a Glock (which doesn't have that capability).

ya and the money you save from buying a taurus you can put that toward becoming a gunsmith :p i cant even get a F%$# firing pin from them a $2 US part

I have a PT92 and I really it (even if it is for sale) I have never had a problem with parts but I hear lately Taurus USA can be a issue but there is always a way;) . I also like the looks of the 24/7 and would buy one but I didn't think there were any in Canada. Where did you handle one and was it new or used?

Now I'm starting to have second thoughts on the Tracker that I ordered from SIR that should be here in a week or so.

KDX you worry too much :p

I handled the 24/7 at shooters choice in August(?)... the gun is actually listed as a 4in on the website but IIRC it's 4.13
