Tavor configurations? Is it possible to restore a sar back to IDF model?

Hi all

I have a tavor-21 with long rail on top. Find out not a fan of that rail and prefer the original integrate m21 design.

Just wondering is it possible to configure it back to IDF model. Or can I find some part for metpro m21 sight plate (not sure what it called) around?

Thanks for the advice

Theoretically yes, it is the plastic top cover, as well as "mount" ( for the mepro and the round knob for the magnifier) that is attached to the barrel assemble.

Practically probably no, this configuration is ery old and their main customers drop this configuration a long time ago. The US did offer this up to 2016 to commercial sale.

It is probably easier to to do WTT at EE and see if anyone with the original TAVOR bought back in 2009 from Canada Ammo import would want to do trade with you, but the tritium lamp on those mepro is over 10years and will not be as bright as before. You probably will need to sweeten deal for these guys to consider a gun swap or a "guts" swap.

Or even a WTT with some of the guys who have bought the restricted surplus 'ed model, for a trade of the "top parts". They will be more or less beat up.

Yeah, I had done it, all the parts are compatible.

The hard part is actually finding the parts. The flip-up front sight and the gas tube with integrated rear sight were rare to start with and are no longer in production. The only way to get them is to get them second hand from people who converted their 1st gen rifles to a flat top. The integrated optics like the MARS are nearly unobtanium, which is why I didn't bother. But they do exist.

There is no M21 sight plate. The sight model is designed to mount onto the Tavor gas block, or it's not.

I have all the parts you need from my Israeli made Tar 21. Flip up front sight, rear block thing with flip up rear sight, Mepro M21 with the barrel mount base for Tavor.

They've been in the parts bin for a while, I could probably part with them. PM me if you're interested and I'll come up with a price.

They are cool setups from a collectibility standpoint but quite frankly not all that usable in my experience... the M21 has a reputation for having a rather large reticle that obscures your target. It also has a tendency to wash out when you're shooting from a shaded area into sunny area. The former issue can be rectified by using a triangle reticle M21, the latter can be rectified through the use of a washout remover kit but personally I'm not a very big fan of it due to its awkward ergonomics.

The best solution I have found is to purchase a GHW front sight post and chop down your OEM flat top rail. Your rear aperture that folds out of the rail will coincide with the Gearhead works front sight post, and not impede your ability to mount whatever optic you choose.

The only way I would ever have an IDF correct clone with an M21 is if I was using it as a collector's piece and had an alternative primary shooting piece.

What I did was use the IWI front sight and gas tube, then cut down the long rail. Mount whatever red dot you want.

Sure! thanks for your advice. I figure out the m21 has an aftermarket Illuminator though the concept is interesting ( which is basically a MOR mini without a laser pointer lol). It hard to find a collector piece nowadays btw

Got it! Thanks for your solid information. I'll certainly try to find one if I am lucy!

Sure it beautiful! Love your setup, just wondering what part u use for the short rail?

Why would you want to though? The original top had some nice big holes for dust and debris to make its way into, unless for the look of course.

It's literally just a top rail with both ends hacksawed off, haha.

Looks is a big one, it has that classic silhouette. But it also feels lighter and slimmer, it's honestly really nice. And the flat top version isn't any different, it's got holes in all the same places. The rail doesn't cover anything.
