Tavor in Canada

Wolverine, wanstalls, shooters choice, one shot tactical, al flaherty's, reliable gun and I'm sure there's tons of others.

Forgive my ignorance, but if'n ya don't ask .....

Didn't realize that there was a "Gen 2" version. What's the difference?

Is this rifle "restricted"? I'd like to pack an AR weight rifle in the boonies. So would my wife.

You current Tavor owners, what's your opinion of the type? The IDF seems to like theirs.

Generation 2 are all new tavors in shops now. Generation 1 and Generation 1.5 tavors had shorter rails on the top. Generation 1 tavors came with a Mepro red dot site. All new tavors are non restricted in Canada. There are some restricted ones floating around due to barrel lengths. You would be hard pressed to find one. The weight is in the back of the rifle. This is a good spot for it to be. The front end is nice and light. The tavor is a excellent replacement for the AR15 for bush use.

Watched a couple of videos on the Tavor ....

Seems some like it just fine - the ergonomics, etc. Others found fault with the level of accuracy. Those that were happy with it accepted it's 2 MOA level of accuracy as a combat type weapon, not a precision rifle.

Can't be all things to all people.

As for taking ANY gun into the Fortress America - fuggedaboudit! I used to enjoy going to US shoots but with the current state of affairs, those days are gone. Too easy to run afoul of one of their security agencies.

How hard are left handers to come by, or do you have to order a parts kit from someplace for a premium?

All tavors leave the factory right handed. There is no kit to buy. You however need to buy is a new left handed bolt. Left handed bolts are 200$. Any shop that carries tavors can order one in for you as they are generally not a stocked item. Or you can contact North Sylva yourself to order one.

To switch the tavor over to left handed use you change out the bolt, moving the firing pin to the new bolt in doing so. After that you change out the ejection port cover. Doing that takes roughly 15 minutes. If you choose to change over the charging handle to the right side you will need to remove the barrel to do so. All told, to remove the barrel to change the charging handle, switching up the bolt and relocating the ejection port cover should take a little under a hour to do so for the inexperienced. There are numerous step by step guides to read or videos to watch on youtube for help.

Jon from North Sylva told me a while back that you can get a left hander ordered from them through your local gun shop of preferance at normal cost. Or you can buy a right hander and have your lgs order the left handed bolt and do the conversion yourself for about $200!

I wouldn't quite call it a 10 for 10, maybe a 9.99/10?

You are mostly correct except you contradict yourself a tiny tiny bit on the CTAR(the 15"barreled restricted tavor) is still availible brand new from factory. Just not many people carry them. I do believe SFRC still has some.

With that out of the way, well put and informative.
