Tavor just ordered. Looking for ammo and equipment suggestions

So my tavor should be on the way soon.

I am looking for suggestions on what ammo to use and what ammo not to use in this gun.

Also looking for sling advice and anything other wisdom people can provide.

vmax 55 grain runs really well
get the adaptor for the sling, mesa 870 sling adapter
get a good sling, tons out there, I run a troy padded on mine.
get a good optic/scope, elcan, acog, etc

i just told you, hornady vmax 55 grain, or zmax same thing
if you dont care about group size, it doesnt matter the tavor is a tank, itll shoot anything

Don't run crap in your Tavor. If you want to run cheap as dirt crap, buy one of those SKS and crate of surplus ammo packages. American Eagle, PMC, S&B are the cheapest of the civilian/surplus ammo that I'll run through my rifles, whether it's my Tavor, ARs, Swiss Arms, etc...

If you want to sling your rifle, give CGN sponsor Dave's Tactical a call and order the Mesa Tactical Remington 870 QD socket kit. Dave's offers a CGN discount.

In terms of slings, your first and last choice should be the Blue Force Gear Vickers Tactical VCAS. CGN sponsors like One Shot Tactical Supply and SFRC are your place to go. You can't go wrong with either the padded or non-padded versions.

Optics wise, buy the best you can afford. I alternate between an Aimpoint red dot in LaRue mount, to EoTech HWS and my Leupold 1-5X28mm MK 4 scope in LaRue mount depending on my intended purpose. You're better off sticking with the BUIS and saving up a little longer than putting a cheap POS red dot or similar.
 
It's a Tavor it will shoot anything you feed it :) 55gr up to 75gr ammo it's a military 5.56 barrel so it can shoot that as well as 223 mine has fed shot and extracted everything I have put in it including cheap brass and steel ammo. If you want a gun that will go pew pew every time you pull the trigger a Tavor is what you want
 
Shoot whatever you want, or can afford. Even norinco, wont hurt a dam thing at all. The tavor will eat up anything you throw at it. Some might be a little more accurate than others, but you dont buy a Tavor to make pretty little groups on paper. lol I heard older gen p mags can push up the bolt catch a little bit and cause damage, also when taking apart the rifle make sure to follow steps correctly or you can cause damage as well.

there is absolutely no need to take the barrel or trigger group off.

On page 2 & 3 cgn member 4b1t takes it further and makes a really nice solution to the tavor sling set up.
As for the sling itself, buy a VCAS from blue force gear. Best sling made hands down. Your in red deer so go to RDSC, they stock VCAS.

Don't add any accessories until you have a decent optic on it. I've seen guys drop 800 bucks on rails, lights, and other BS yet run a bushnell red dot. A quality optic and a sling is all this rifle REALLY needs.

Also, gen 2 PMags are tighter than a nuns c**t in my rifle to the point of them being damn near useless. I use strictly gen 3 PMags and USGI mags in it.

Guns don't discriminate what ammo they eat, so neither do I. The likelyhood of your gun exploding due to norinco ammo is probably the same as it is with federal ammo.
 
Minimalist approach is best, don't load the Tavor down with all kinds of tacticool crap. As already said, decent optic, stock sling works for me, and I've shot a lot of norinco, steel case MSP, and various other cheap and expensive ammo just because - it's spit out everything no issues. Using Winchester whitebox 55gr FMJ now as a common go to ammo, it's plentiful and relatively inexpensive.
 
Honestly shoot whatever you can get your hands on. If money isn't an issue, buy high end stuff. If your not filthy rich, buy anything cheap that you can get your hands on. She ain't designed to be a tac driving 1moa bench gun. It's designed for battle so run lots of ammo doing CQB drills. Have fun with it dude
 
Only ammo that ever gave me trouble in my Tavor was Norinco. I think it must have been underpowered, because it wouldn't cycle the action enough to strip a new round off the mag. This would happen every 3-5 rounds, with the white box Norc stuff in particular. It was really annoying. I had some yellow box Norc that worked fine tho.
I stick to PMC, American Eagle, and Federal now.
Otherwise I keep my Tavor fairly simple. I got a Timney trigger, Aimpoint H1, a Midwest Industries extended handguard, and a Magpul MS3 sling.
