Hi. I bought a Tavor tar 21 and ordered the left hand bolt as I am a lefty. Anyone have experience in this change over? Did it work well. I am reading online about possible head spacing issues. All American rifles though. Not the ones we get here from Israel. I imagine they wouldn’t sell the conversion kits if they didn’t work or were unsafe.

If you haven’t already, download the Tavor maintenance manual as the conversion walk through is in there. It’s been a few years since I did the one I had, and was I recall the only specialized tool needed is the barrel locking wrench. I made one from a large Allen wrench and a file. Other than that basic tools like punches, brass and soft faced hammer, pliers, etc.
All you need is the lefty bolt and shouldn’t have any issues with headspace.

A person should always check the head space of a new barrel bolt combo as a precaution. Thats why in the US IWI requires rifles to come in for a bolt swap, and wont sell the bolt by itself uninstalled and un checked. Its a liability issue.

As an alternative IWI US offers headspace matched barrel/bolt kits that have already been checked for those who wish to keep the rifle in their possession during the conversion process.

I have never actually heard of a headspace issue with the Tavors, it just comes up alot in the US because they cant buy just the bolt with out sending their rifle in.

I seen on video that showed the barrel wrench coming with the conversion kit. I won’t know till it comes. You had no functionality issues after conversion?

Just grind down a allen key for the wrench on a bench grinder. Its easy enough to do. As for the conversion, it took me a little more then a half hour to do. And im certainly not a gunsmith or mechanicaly inclined. Read the armourers manual and you should be good to go. You will also have the privilege of watching youtube videos to. I didn't have those when I did mine about 10 years back.

i suggest you buy one as you will use it a lot taking off barrel for more intense cleaning--why mess up your lock from a poorly ground alen key to save 20 bucks?dlask usually has them

I have made my own out of a bolt in the past and just used a wrech on the bolt. Not the most stable method but never damaged the lock.

I finally did break down and buy a shooting sight Tav-Tool, dont know it was worth the money but I do know I don't regret it.
