Now I've gone and done it! I knew I was spending too much time running this gun, and she's kicking back for all the hard use.

Something's gone wrong in there. Reliability is terrible right now.

I'm getting failure to feeds, failure to battery with mangled rounds being bit by the bolt, and the occasional failure of the bolt-hold-open device after a mag empties.

Even a failure to eject once!

What the hell did I do?

Possibilities:

I cleaned the piston and inside the gas chamber when I took the barrel off to install the full rail. Can you clean wrong?

I ran the gun a little dryer than my army buddies reccomended on one of my shoots. Not as much oil on the bolt carrier as they'd put on their C7s, but not bone dry. I've got her greased good in the videos though.

I cut down my P-mag rear sections to make it so they don't hit the bolt hold open anymore. Maybe I didn't do a good enough job and its been half-engaging?

The gun has seen a lot of rounds, but I'm sure there were IDF guys on Cast Lead who put through twice what I have. What am I missing?

Drives me nuts, because I just ordered another $500 in parts to up the awesomeness of this rifle, and now she's being a ##### about it!

I'm open to advice guys. I usually think of myself as reasonably knowledgeable when it comes to this platform, but I'm struggling.

I have my mags marked. I've had trouble with all 3 pmags, the two IWI mags, and my 5/30 CF mag. But oddly the LAR 10 rounder has been pretty good.

I had one point where I ##### slapped it in the mag well with a closed bolt, and the LAR was sticky to get out, but that's it

i dont know much about the tavor but is your extractor working fine? are you sure you left nothing in the gas system when you cleaned it?
do you use brass or steel case rounds? some guns dont like brass rounds.

thats what i would look for first.

The tavor is mad that you got fooled by the COD marketing hype and put a HAMR site on it.

Can someone please explain to me the benefit of a HAMR over a 1-4x scope?

Is it possible the pmags damaged the bolt?, ive heard that on the scar and a few other non -AR type rifles, which includes the Tavor, that the pmags lift the bolt hold open which in turn, damages the bolt.....

Check to see if the bolt lugs have any "shiny" parts to them...aka: abnormal wear...

^^^^

I think there is a thread about that...

Lol yes a thread I started.

Take a look, there are shiny parts on the mil bolt definitely.

I oiled everything super good, swapped the civ bolt in the for the military one, and filed any remaining roughness off of the P-mags.

Take a look at the bolts side by side:

We'll have to see how she performs during the mini-service-rifle shoot tomorrow morning!

if the new round is getting damaged and not stripped from the mag, the rifle is short stroking. gas is not getting directed properly to where it needs to go, or too much resistance due to a mechanical issue.

Hmmm if she's inconsistent then that's te ##### of it. Have you talked to IWI? I know there is a customer email address that you can use. My friend in BC had a Tavor that was not working well for him either. He emailed them with a full breakdown picture taking of his rifle (close ups) and a video of it firing. They emailed him back With a solution. Tried it, did nothing. Emailed with results, tried Another option and hey presto it worked. I'll email him an see if I can get the address for you. :)

The only issues I have ever had was failures to eject... it was a left handed shooter and he was stopping the empties from ejecting with his face... funny part was he didnt even notice

I was having all the same problems as yours,

I posted on here, everyone blamed the mags, and my cleaning ability.

It was neither, I got lots of help, and used lots of mags. It was just a Lemon Tavor.

failure to feed, eject, lock back upon empty ect...
I just sold it at a loss, and now scream "IWI!!!!" and shake my fist at the Heavens

You indicated you were having the problem(s) regardless of magazines, so I think switching back to the mil-spec bolt is worth a try. What about changing up the ammunition as well?

You do realize that the likelihood of malfunctions is directly proportional to the amount you've spent on upgrades, yes? ;)

Only 2000rounds? That doesnt seem like a whole lot to start malfunctioning that much. I have 500rounds through mine and i have only been to the range twice. So if it fails at 2000 im going to be pissed.

I havent had a single jam on the range, i was having some trouble with double feeds and jams using snap caps though.

I wish someone that knew what they were doing would post a video of cleaning the tar so i could see if im doing it right but i havent found anything on youtube yet. Im not sure what the proper way to clean the gas tube is. Also am i supposed to be oiling the gas tube/piston? How much oil should i be using? I know on my SKS i was told not to....

Also am i supposed to be oiling the gas tube/piston?

I wasnt sure about this for the longest time. Armourers manual says yes, oil the piston and everything metal that drops out with the carrier. But then it also says not to oil things in direct contact with exhaust gases and gives th chamber and bore as an example. Isn't that the piston too?

I'm oiling mine at the moment.

And yes. I've seen this happen with ####ty 45gr JHP, 55gr PMC, but also with Barnes Vortex 69gr nice stuff.

Never had the zombie ammo from Hornady malfunction though! *praise the man-jesus*
