Hi Everyone,
I am planning to get a Tavor Gen 2.5 and the dealer cannot confirm if the trigger housing is metal or plastic. For all you Tavor owners, what kind of trigger housing do you have and what generation is your rifle ? I am not sure if I am getting an after market trigger for it.
I also wish to find out what type of 3rd party magazine does your tavor like, and what MOA are you getting form this rifle ??

Thanks !
CT

All generation have a polymer factory trigger housing.

Gen3 Pmags, Lancer, and Alexander Arms are all good. Basically any decent quality mag will run with out issue.

Gen 2 pmags on the other hand have been reported to cause premature bolt release/catch wear, but can be modified to enhance function using a file.

1.5moa capable with the right factory ammo according to Mikethebike's test, but generally bulk ammo will produce 2-4" groups.

Thank You !
This clarifies it alot. Donnot if I am gonna invest in an after market.
Do you think 2-4 is acceptable for this platform ? I use my T56 SKS and I am getting under 3-4 sometimes.

Just added a piece I had missed in my above post in bold.

I have invested in both the Geissele Super Sabra hammer/sear pack, and the Geissele Lightning Bow trigger bow. The most important part to upgrade in my opinion is the trigger bow as it completely obliterates any of that "bullpup trigger" mushy feel, and drops your pull weight a couple pounds for $150.

The Super Sabra (or any aftermarket pack) will only lighten the pull weight further, and provide a crisper break and more tactile reset at the cost of $450+. Hammer/sear packs are not worth the dough in my opinion if you have not upgraded the bow first in my opinion.

The 2-4moa I implied entailed various manufactures and weights, hense the 2 to 4 moa comment. With the correct bullet weight and trying a few different bulk manufactures I am sure you can easily tighten that down to 2-3moa f not just 2moa period.

I agree. I might get the lightning bow. There are videos online where people take off one trigger spring to lighter the trigger pull to around 7lbs. is that a common practise ?

As for the acceptability of the groupings, thats for you to decide. Just understand that an OEM Tavor has not been enhanced for the civi market from its IDF issued cousin, infact the only difference is a little longer barrel and the FA function has been removed. The Tavor was designed as a compact answer to the IDF's growing need to be able to go from CQB to mid range engagements, but was never intended to be an accuracy driven platform as reliability on the harsh gritty environment of Israel is of much greater importance.

Furthermore on the topic of accuracy and reliability. It is VERY difficult to have both in a semi-auto platform as tight tolerances are an inherent part of accuracy as much as they are an inherent part reliability issues in semi-autos. This is why there are so few good accurate gas guns. The list of ones that have seemed to have figured out the tricky balance between these 2 properties is pretty short, especially for us Canadians.

Hey 120ish,
Does the Lightning bow work with the stock trigger?
For some reason, I was under the impression it only works with the Super Sabra.
I'm too cheap to spend $450 + $150 for both so I never looked into it further.
You will need the barrel wrench to install it, correct?

I think that makes sense. And do you think the X95 will offer much more than the Tar21 ? is it worth to wait for the new one ?

I just finished installing the lighting bow and Super Sabra in my gen 2.5 Tavor.

To go against what a lot of people are saying, the trigger bow Install is pretty straight forward. There are only a couple tricky parts.. I'm not mechanically minded, and I did it pretty easily in an evening. The forend, bolt carrier group, charging rod and barrel have to come out, but it is not difficult to do. find the armourer manual online, and it will go over everything you need to do.

You will need a barrel wrench, or something similar, to remove the barrel. There are people who use a screwdriver and make it work, but you risk marking up the barrel release bolt. I took a bench grinder to the short end of a hex wrench, and in 5 minutes I had a barrel wrench that worked flawlessly.

Before I did the install, I was under the impression that the $500 trigger pack would make the most difference in trigger pull. I tried replacing the pack first, with the stock bow, and it does improve the weight of the pull, but there is still tons of take up and tons of slack. Everything just feels very mushy...

After installing the new lighting bow and reinstalling the oem trigger pack I found it ASTONISHING just how much better the stock trigger feels with this bow. It takes up all the slack, and lightens it up substantially. You will still have some grittiness on the final pull, and it is still quite heavy, but night and day from OEM.

Once you swap out the trigger pack with the bow, the trigger is flawless. The Super Sabra pack is a two stage, and with the first stage adjustable, you can get a pull that is exactly how you want it.

In short, if you have a couple hundred bucks and are looking to improve your Tavor trigger, get the lighting bow and be done with it. After that if you are looking for perfection, save up for a trigger pack.

PM me if you have any questions on the install. I'll do what I can to help!

Good info. You two got me sold on the Lightning bow. Josh, can you comment on the "removing sear spring" trigger job that some ppl do?

I believe the trigger bow works the same on all Gen's of Canadian Tavors.

As for the sear spring.. If you pull the trigger pack out of the Tavor, you will see a small spring near the housing. If you remove this spring, you'll lighten your trigger pull by a few pounds.

The reason I decided not to go this route is that this spring's job is to ensure complete trigger reset after every shot. If the spring is removed and trigger is pulled, there is a chance the trigger may not reset completely if it's not released right after firing.

Most folks who have done the removal seem not to have an issue with trigger reset. I'm sure for the most part this would be a viable solution to improve the stock trigger, but in my case, I wanted a completely rock-solid solution with zero chance of failure. It's expensive.. But for my dream gun it's worth it.

Being as simple as it is to remove, you could always try it with and without the spring and see what you think.

I think that makes sense. And do you think the X95 will offer much more than the Tar21 ? is it worth to wait for the new one ?

For us civi's and our NR requirements, the differences are minor but nevertheless here are the main differences on the x95:
-improved factory hammer/sear pack
-changed magazine release to better mimic an AR15 for those familiar with that layout
-better factory handguard/rail system for accessory mounting
-changeable pistol grip/trigger guard styles
-smaller more sleak design, and once we get the correct thin buttpad, it will be shorter than the Tar by about 1-2"
-heavier than the Tavor

If your New to the black rifle scene and have not been ruined by the AR15 crowd making you think the only place for a mag release is in reach of your trigger finger the Tar or x95 will be good for you.

If you are an idividual with extensive time on a AR platform, the Tar or x95 will feel foreign, but the x95 will be a less extensive re-learning of controls due to the familiar mag release.

If you plan to mount verticle or angled grips, flashlights, lasers, or what ever else, then you will benefit from the x95.

If you are one of the people who do not like the Tar style trigge-handguard (in place of the normal trigger guard) then the x95 with changeable pistol grips and trigger guards is a benefit to you.

As a Tar owner, would I sell my Tar for a x95? Absolutely not, even if I could only afford one at a time.
Will I buy a x95 in addition to my Tar? Yes, I love variety and the x95 is definitely going to be in my safe. I just bought a Mepro MOR IR/Vis unit at Wolverines Black Friday event in preparation for the arrival of the x95.

As a Tar owner, would I sell my Tar for a x95? Absolutely Yes and Im waiting on my X95 :)

And not having to spend 400$ for an aftermarket trigger is also a plus on the X95

I took the Tavor course last Spring and got some great advice on the Tavor and what changes can be made.
The first change I made was removing the sear spring from the trigger pack. That brought the trigger pull weight down from about 11 lbs. to 8 lbs. I haven't had any problems with trigger reset and I shot over 860 rounds in the 2 day course alone.
Later on I installed the Lightning bow trigger and the pull weight came down to 6 lbs. and vastly improved the feel of the trigger.
Now for the Geisele trigger pack?
