Tavor words of wisdom

I was curious. Since the US will not allow rifles with hi-cap detachable magazines or threaded barrels less than 16". Would it be possible for a Gunsmith to modify a Tavor with a magazine block and remove the flash suppressor and threads. Wouldn't this make a Tavor legal to export to the US legally? You fellow Gunnutz chime in and give me some opinions or words of wisdow. Thanks people. Charles

I'm not sure exactly. I know the BATFE doesn't know much either. I consider all firearms sporting. Apparently a shotgun in their perspective is the only thing sporting. And that's questionable to them.
I know that a barrel has to be no less than 16" un-threaded, can't have a detachable magazine with more than 10rnds. If the parts are stamped US then hey, they must be US parts lol.
Now if a Tavor didn't have a detachable magazine and the barrel is more than 16" un-threaded then that's got to be worth looking into.
On my SL8-1 I had to mill out my magazine well to be able to accept G36 mags(legal to do). Just looking for ideas here.

It seems US State Dept. that controls importation into the US works under a complete standard than the BATFE. by all accounts the Canadain version of the Tavor satisfy all the BATFE requirements, the only thing left is that whole "Made in the USA" thing, but there are firesarms that are manufactured outside of USA and still managed to get approved for import

That I am not sure. Which portion of the Tavor is considered the receiver? Black shell or metal internal frame?
What's the difference? Neither are made in the US...

I don't mean any offense but you seem a little light on knowledge regarding US firearms importation regulations.

One could assume some entity would have brought these in if there was a "loophole" such as the one you are alluding to.

I hope I'm not coming across like a d!ck, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. ;)

Cheers

Has anyone drawn up correct specs for the Tavor that wouldn't mind sending me blueprints? Fat chance but thought I would ask.
That was me that sent you the email Chris. I also spoke with you via phone about KBI building a US version. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen. They have since supposedly closed their doors for production of anything.

Isn't Taurus gearing up to build a US compliant Tavor? Might've gotten my wires crossed, but I think I remember reading that somewhere.

Wasn't Barrett talking about that a while ago?

It was dead in the water for some reason.....

BTW Isn't Charles Daly announced that they were supposed to work with IWI and build Tavors in the South before the whole company got folded?

We are working on it. It will have to be made in the US as it cannot be imported.

But we are definitely working on it and that is all I can say for now.
