Tax write off?

look for the "statement of business activity" form on the revenue canada site. send it in with your personal claim forms. thats all you need.

it sounds like some think a tax writeoff = free money from the government. all a write off gives you is a tax credit to reduce your income tax owed. it applies only to the income it is being clamed against. you can't use your shooting deductions to reduce the tax from your day job.

you can only claim deductions to take your tax owed to 0. if you didn't have any tax deducted from your winnings you won't get a refund.

if you put a 10 cent sticker on your $15000 truck for advertising you can claim the 10 cents for the sticker. but you can claim all the mileage for your truck for any business related use(thats a big one).

i file 3 tax claims per year, 1 -day job, 2-PT furniture/cabinet business, 3-trapping income. i do all my own taxes.

Hence keeping a recept from a trade show, etc at the same location as a shooting event. Accomadations as well as travel can be claimed. Actual shooting expenses wouldn't work, unless maybe you were a gunsmith/firearms business. Then you might have an angle.

Is there an expectation to win at Golf tournaments? I wonder if their expenses are deductible? Is it Pro status or tour Event player that makes an allowance for them. In recent POD tourney, Mark Calcaveccia bought a retail putter that won him the ca$h. I wonder if he deducted it ? Ha

have some fun.. the CRA never looses..
