Hi there.

Got a nice buck yesterday, and I am looking for a good taxidermist in the Edmonton area for a head mount (not an European mount).

Do you folks have anyone to recommend (or to not recommend)?

Furthermore, how much should I expect to pay, roughly? Please note that I just want the head mount, not the Cabelas-like "deer among foliage with birds hovering overhead" thing.

Thanks a bunch!

You would need to contact them for pricing. Everyone is different, and prices change almost yearly with their supply costs fluctuating. If I was throwing out a wild guess - I would imagine somewhere between $1100 and $1300 but that is only a guess.

Thanks again, SG. I asked you first (and only for a rough estimation) because if it were beyond a certain price range, I would not waste their time with my useless enquiry.

Hey not sure if u see my last post,

Salt that hide and Freeze it..... will last forever.. Perhaps you can save up for nxt season, if you dont 'better' it, mount it!

i was the same, i have a dozen heads to be mounted, but only kept some capes, because after a while im thinkin WTH is goin to be paying for this ####???

so i learnt to do it myself, now wish i had the other half of the skins frozen too, not just half of em!

:)

worst worst case, if you just want it to look like a Deer, it should be fairly easy to find a Taxi who will be keen on the work / income! i too dont fall for the leaves and the whole kit and kaboodle, i just want the deer, on , the, wall :)

I’m guessing it’s been awhile. Lol. I started doing my own when they got up over $600, but never did enough to be 100% happy with my own work. Now I euro most of my own waiting for a true giant which I will open my wallet and have it done right.

The difference in price going from a subpar to excellent job is the best money you can spend - especially when you will be looking at the deer the next 25 years. Trust me when I say, don’t base your choice of taxidermist on price, it will be a very expensive lesson.
