So I received this baby in 243 with a 7mm RM barrel as my new year' gift. With a leupold scope at 100 meters the best I could get was 1.5 inch group. I thought in 243 I could easily get sub MOA group. Anyone here has experience with this gun? So far I've only shot 70 rounds through the barrel. All handloads. So is this rifle good for 2 or 300 meters?
 
Had a few...223, 270, 7mm rem mag and 375 H&H. All were good for under an inch. My 223 is the only one I presently own and it will do an easy 1/2 inch with most loads. 2-300 meters should be no problem for hunting.
 
There are a couple of things you can check.

a) Is the forend touching the receiver?
b) Is the hinge pin flush or is it exiting more on one side?
c) The most obvious one would probably be that your handloads aren't working that great in this particular barrel. Try factory and see if it's better or worse. There are a lot of instances when Encores are shooting sub MOA with blue Federals.
 
I had no problem shooting a MOA group with my pro hunter 25/06 once I got the fore end off the barrel.(it was touching in some spots) I also used the Federal blue box. I am expecting better once I develop a hand load.
 
I read about the issues with the hinge and the foreend on some websites. I've checked the hinge and didn't find any obvious problems. Maybe its the forend. By the way I shot 3/4 inch group today.
