TC Hawken 45 cap size?

My first shot at muzzle loaders so bear with me please.

Everything I could find out said use #11 caps so I am and they do make it go bang. But they fit loose and will fall off. I had accidentally picked up a couple of tins of #10 caps and find that they fit better but still not snug, haven't tried them yet.

Does anyone know what size they should be?

Can I use the #10s if they fit better? Is there any chance the nipple is wrong?

If the 10's fit better than certainly go ahead and use them. For either size try squeezing them a little with your fingers to make them oval shaped and they will stay in place better.

It's odd that even the 10's are loose but it's pretty easy to find a new nipple if it bothers you. Good to have a spare anyway. Hotshot nipples work well in my experience.

Give the cap a little pinch, even the #11's will stay on. Your gun probably has #10 nipples if the #10 caps fit better. Load up and enjoy.

Maybe you should get a new nipple..

If you bought it used, it is possible someone replaced the nipple with one of an incorrect size. Remove it and find the number of threads, and the dia. (measure in both metric and SAE) as thread sizes come in both. TC have used both SAE and metric sized nipples.

I believe that it may be 12-28.....

I think I will use up the rest of the #10 caps and then order one of those Hot Shot nipples from Track. I'm getting a Bang out of this thing.
