Looks like I am buying one tomorrow.

Just wondering who has one and how it is switching barrels, etc. Wondering about accuracy, forearms, scopes, etc.

I will start with a ML barrel, but would like to get a turkey barrel, slug barrel, 308 and varmint.

Any info at all is greatly appreciated.

I have both a 300 WM barrel and a ML barrel.

I like the stock and the recoil absorption feature not to forget the 28" barrel with the gun still shorter than my 300 WM Tikka T3.

Don't forget that upgrades to the gun is possible with aftermarket parts (springs, pin, etc) at very reasonable costs.

I have owned 300 WM hunting guns for many years and the TC Pro Hunter is the most comfortable to shoot. I shot over 30 rounds not too long ago with no blue shoulder marks, etc. This is not the case with my other guns including the Tikka T3 Lite.

Good luck!

i have an encore that i upgraded with a pro hunter thumbhole stock. it has .50 cal ML, 22-250, 300 win mag and 7 mm mag barrels. its my go to gun. i love this gun. light, compact even with 28" pro hunter barrels. i've never had accuracy issues. i have read that some people have had accuracy issues with them ussualy caused by hinge pin movement. you could buy a "locker pin" as some people have. or you can use good old duct tape on the side of the hinge pin and shave a small amount from the inside of the forend beside where the hinge pin is to make room for the tape. but as i said, i've never had a problem with pin movement, just something i've read a few times on the net.

I owned older Contenders and Carbines (NOT the G2) and loved them. Remove a screw or 2 from the fore end and press out the hinge pin and the barrel was off, reverse and you are ready to go. Accuracy was "usually" very good but I did have the odd barrel that shot VERY poor.

I have no personal experience with the Enocres but have read in various forums that the factory T/C barrels do not offer the accuracy they used to. Lots of complaints of long chamber throats or chambers off center. A friend (gunsmith) has verified that most of the Encores he gets in for sight ins shoot poorly (2-3" groups @ 100 yds). He has stated that every once in a while he gets one in that is a tack driver but most are not.

It is my understanding that aftermarket barrels from SSK or Bullberry Barrel works for example perform excellent.

You will need a scope for each barrel you plan to scope. There is no practical way to swap scopes when swapping barrels.

Buy premium scopes as "snapping" the barrel closed can be rather hard on a scope (the forces are in a direction the scope was probably not designed for). I suspect it is similar to spring type air rifles where the recoil is opposite to the recoil a cartridge rifle exhibits except the Encore/Contender action closing would put a vertical force on the scope.

I own an Encore. I love it!! I am a gunsmith as well and do work on the Encore. I did my trigger and added an oversize hinge pin and with factory barrels can shoot one hole groups off my lead sled at 300yds I don't know how much more accurate you need. I have a 22-250 and 308 factory barrels(used to have the .300 win barrel but too much $$ to shoot) You can't go wrong with an Encore as far as I'm concerned!!

I love mine. I have a .308 pro hunter with a thumb hole stock. I have upgraded the locking spring hammer spring and polished the trigger and installed a 2 lb spring. Trigger is at 1 lb 12 oz. Even before I did all this I was able to shoot 1 hole groups at 100 yards. But I am also a reloader. I do find is that it could be fussy on ammo when working up a load for example .5 grain diff of powder would change a 3 shot group from .219 to 1-1.5" using varget. Velocity is also quite high with the 28" barrel.

I went the way of the Encore muzzle loader and put a pro hunter barrel on it. I felt I could keep the costs down, and have an outstanding rifle at the same time.

The pro hunter offers some advantages, the one I would like the most is the swing hammer. This offers a big advantage when it comes time to scope your rifle.

I have only had opportunity to shoot the muzzle loader, and I love it! It shoulders quickly, and is on point. I thought the trigger was very crisp, but maybe a little heavy.(could easily be upgraded)

It is compact for a rifle with a 28 inch barrel, but keep in mind that the chamber is part of the barrel. So as the case with my 25/06, the shell is approx 3 inches long in the 28 inch barrel. So I would say more like 25 inches.(maybe all guns are measured this way, I don't know)

If you can afford the Pro hunter, good for you and go for it. There is a lot of after market support if it doesn't live up to your standards.

I bought the Encore SS ML then slowly picked up xtra bbl`s over the last couple years. .204Ruger, .270 Pro-Hunter bbl, .308,.300WM (which i gave to my bro), and recently a .338WM Pr0-Hunter bbl. And off ebay I picked up a of Pro Hunter syn stock. IMO this is a great investment, I enjoy mine and have no regrets.

Hey Anfoman,

Nice to know there is a gunsmith in my neighbourhood... well sort of. I'm at Green Lake / 70 Mile House quite a lot during the year.... Might need to have some work done on my TC's one day!
What other work do you do?

cheers,
Warren

I just bought another TC Encore Pro Hunter barrel (this one in 375 H&H) and can't wait to shoot it to compare the felt recoil to bolt action rifles.

We all know about the claim from TC that the felt recoil using a FexTech stock is reduced by around 43% and more.

I've had a few bolt actions in 375 H&H (mostly Sakos) and find the recoil to be excessive, although I've been shooting magnum caliber (300 WM mostly) rifles for some time.

I will get back here once I've done the comparison.

I just got an Encore and even before shooting it I have fallen in love with it. It will replace a couple of my firearms.
