Well, I finally got the sight installed, there were a few minor snags.

1: had to grind the cross pin on the take down lever off

2: the rear sight leaf trunnions have either one or 2 very small diameter pins in them, I had to grind this off to get the rear sight leaf off

For grinding the take down lever I used a dremel tool with one of their cylindrical grinding bits, about 3/8 " diameter

to remove the rear sight leaf, I had to grind away a very small diameter pin in the trunnion(about 1/16"), I used a HSS ball shaped dremel bit for this job, I marked up the rear leaf a bit with the screw driver before I figured this out, and for the grinding job I had to be careful to not nick the corresponding hole in the rear sight base.

- Testing will come tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

* another minor shortcoming I noticed with the design of this rear sight is that the elevation adjustment, it's impossible to adjust the elevation on the rear sight without some small diameter rod like maybe a 1/16" allen key or something like that, it will probably be easier to get the elevation on with the front sight (hopefully it's close) - also I recommend that you get the sight adjustment tool that they also sell, that's pretty much a requirement as well, * it will really help you get the windage on; it's not very expensive either.

Looks like tomorrow will be a wash. . .

EDIT: so far the installation seems strong, only use and taking it off and putting it back on will show whether it returns to zero as claimed.

********* to put the sight on, first take the provided allen wrench and screw the brass tipped set screws until they are about or just shy of being flush on the inside, put the sight in place with the large transverse bolt and nut provided - don't worry it only goes on one way - then take a suitably sized chunk of a sheet of paper and while holding it between the screw and the rear of the receiver, gently tighten the set screws one by one until you feel the screw grab the paper shim, then back off slightly, and remove the shim piece, and give it about 1/8 turn to snug it up, - I used a sheet of a piece of clear plastic from the wrapper, which I thought looked a little thicker than a sheet of paper, so I gave it 1/4 turn.

Gave up on trying to go to the range as I figured the road would have been about 1-2 miles of deep mud, and my little box of a car probably could not make it out; so I have postponed shooting for another week, we'll see what next weekend brings. :(
