303carbine wanted me to post a picture of this group

45-70_teflon_wrapped_target1.jpg

These bullets were wrapped by HS4570,his seem to be a tad more accurate than when I wrap them.
I read up some more on the topic and it apparently makes a difference in which direction they are rolled out.
Twist them in the same direction of the rifle twist seems to get the best results.:sniper:

Nice group all right. What made you decide to teflon patch the bullets? I did cast for a friend's 45-70 at one time, but his gave good accuracy without patching. We may have come close, but I don't think we had a group quite this good. If memory serves we were using a 405 grain boolit. I know little about patching bullets myself, except what I've read from time to time and some of the comments made on the forum. Cheers! Fred

I heard about teflon patching from another board member and had him twist a few out for me ,as you can see it works very well. The teflon replaces the messy lube that you find on many of the cast bullets on the market. With the bullets teflon wrapped, there is no leading that often accompanies some cast bullets. Some will rant and rave and say it doesn't work, but the results are proof for me.
No voodoo or gimmicks involved,it works.

Are you going to hate me if I tell you that a lyman moly coated LBT 400 LFN doing 2000 FPS out of my marlin will shoot a group inside that group. If casting/lubing is done right leading is a non issue. My marlin,86 win etc never get cleaned even

PS typically from a scoped marlin at 100 meters

You got good results with your loads for sure,I would use that load because it works. I tried the teflon and found that it works too, despite the nay sayers.
No voodoo or gimmicks,it works and I'm not trying to flog a product by telling people it doesn't work.

X2 It's what works that counts and often different things work with different projectiles and different rifles. Sometimes there are more than two roads to the same place too. The last time I looked at cast boolit benchrest results the record was in the two's. They may be better now. I don't know. So, there have been better groups shot with cast than the first group displayed here. That doesn't detract from the fact that the first group is a good one and was shot with a patched boolit. fred

Actually M.T. Chambers is a long time member/contributor to the cast boolits website, and has past on his findings re: patching bullets, and accuracy problems associated with introducing unneeded variables in bullet making. You may want to check out articles in the "Fouling Shot" magazine of the Cast Bullet Association, authored by M.T. Chambers. For information on hunting with cast bullets you may want to check out B. Mitchells' "Supreme Handloads for the 45/70" where some of the bullets/loads/test/procedures used by Chambers are discussed. You may want to also check out his website and his collection of bullet molds, a list that is actually 150 + different bullets, each bullet tested, at the bench and in the field.

M T Chambers on Cast Boolits forum

Mr Hunchak ..if you post as" MT Chambers on Cast Boolits." you are credited with haveing been a member of "Cast Boolits "for about 17 months +/- starting 19 Nov.2006 ...and you are credited with 6 Posts "started by M T Chambers" these were...4 questions ...1 intoduction..1 range report. Plus 135 posts responding to others... includeing telling all present "for those who live in Canada"...what you make and that it's for sale.

I understand you may feel this qualifys you as having been a longtime contributor...and some may disagree with the above/noted being a "lengthy" run of wisdom /knowledge and cordial social exchange with fellow shooters, but if you say its "lengthy" .....its OK by me.

IIRC ...you were not a member of the "other forum" many years ago that Spun off to become the present "Cast Boolits Forum"..so not much "lengthy" contribution there ..

Unlike some... who feel they are a legend in their own mind .....I do not delude myself into thinking I make any difference on this or any other forums...I just post what works for me...keep an open mind.. and share/exchange my limited knowledge with others.

This may work for you too....

...cheers
