Did a telephone transfer of a rifle from a friend, it went through, but I of course don't have a new paper registration for it, I asked if it can be faxed to me and I was told no, and don't transport it without the paper registration which we will mail you in a few weeks.

How does one get something on paper concerning the transfer so that you are covered if stopped while transporting, or if you need to show registration for any other reason--conservation officer, police, range, etc.

Thanks!

the person who sold you the firearm should provide you with his registration and you write down the reference number on that. that will be your registration until you get the new one.

Yeah, that might work, but to obey the law to the letter you are only supposed to transport when in possession of (with) a valid registration. The previous owners registration is no longer valid once the transfer is completed.

That is why the OP was instructed by CFC "do not transport without the paper registration" etc. In a few weeks, hopefully this paper chase for long-guns will be over, but until then be careful not to give any LEO a reason to sieze your firearm.
